  • Patent number: 8063714
Abstract: A tunable RF filter comprises a signal transmission path having an input and output, a plurality of resonant elements disposed along the signal transmission path between the input and output, and a set of non-resonant elements coupling the resonant elements together to form a stop band having a plurality of transmission zeroes corresponding to respective frequencies of the resonant elements, and at least one sub-band between the transmission zeroes. The set of non-resonant elements comprises a first plurality of non-resonant elements respectively coupled in parallel with the resonant elements, and a second plurality of non-resonant elements respectively coupled in series with the resonant elements. The first plurality of non-resonant elements comprises at least one variable non-resonant element for selectively introducing at least one reflection zero within the stop band to create a pass band in one of the one sub-band(s) without varying any of the second plurality of non-resonant elements.

  • Patent number: 7924114
Abstract: A method of constructing a band-stop filter comprises designing a band-stop filter including a signal transmission path, resonant elements disposed along the signal transmission path, and non-resonant elements coupling the resonant elements together to form a stopband having transmission zeroes corresponding to respective frequencies of the resonant elements. The method further comprises changing the order in which the resonant elements are disposed along the signal transmission path to create different filter solutions, computing a performance parameter for each filter solution, comparing the performance parameters to each other, selecting one of the filter solutions based on this comparison, and constructing the band-stop filter using the selected filter solution.

  • Patent number: 7894867
Abstract: A narrowband filter comprises an input terminal, an output terminal, and an array of basic resonator structures coupled between the terminals to form a single resonator having a resonant frequency. The resonator array may be arranged in a plurality of columns of basic resonator structures, with each column of basic resonator structures having at least two basic resonator structures. The basic resonator structures in each column may be coupled between the terminals in parallel or in cascade. Two or more resonator arrays may be coupled to generate multi-resonator filter functions.

  • Patent number: 7181259
Abstract: A resonator and filter including the resonator is disclosed. The resonator (100) includes an open conductive loop (100) with folded transmission line segments (124, 134) extending from the adjacent ends of the loop. Of each transmission line segment, the portion emanating from the respective end of the loop is positioned generally along-side the corresponding portion of the other transmission line segment. That is, the two transmission line segments are folded away from each other. The resonator can be generally elongated in shape, with the loop at one end of the long axis and the transmission line segments at the other. The transmission line segments occupy a footprint (W2) that is not substantially greater than the width of the loop (W1). The filter includes multiple resonators of the invention, each resonator being coupled to at least another or the resonators. The resonators can be positioned in a side-by-side fashion, with the long axes of the resonators parallel or anti-parallel to one another.

  • Patent number: 6496710
Abstract: A filter for filtering electrical signals comprises a substrate and a plurality of resonators formed circularly to surround the center of the substrate. Each resonator has an arcuate part at a radially outermost part and a pair of linear parts extending from ends of the arcuate part in a radially inward direction. The arcuate part is located at the same distance from the center of the substrate. The linear parts of each resonator have different lengths from each other thereby to provide a sharp decrease of gain at ends of the frequency passband in a filtering response.

  • Patent number: 6450034
Abstract: A filter has a plurality of resonators formed regularly on a substrate and made of a superconducting material. In measuring resonance frequency of the resonators, the filter and a conductive metal plate having an opening are placed in a vacuum chamber so that all the resonators other than one resonator which faces the opening are covered with the metal plate. The metal plate has an input probe and an output probe at the opening of the metal plate. The resonance frequency of each resonator is measured in sequence while rotating the metal plate. Each resonator is adjusted in shape by a laser trimming or providing a dielectric film in correspondence with the measured resonance frequency so that all the resonators have a fixed resonance frequency.
