  • Patent number: 7045069
Abstract: A method of fabricating microstructural components, microparts assemblies and microparts is disclosed. The method includes fabricating a unidirectional metal matrix composite made of materials selected to allow precise etching of different structural elements of the given composite without damage to each other. Cutting a composite to form slices or sections. Etching a matrix entirely out will produce wide assortment of microparts. Partial removal of matrix will form an array of microprotrusions protruding from a substrate. Etching out the microprotrusions cores will form hollow microprotrusions. The method of invention is suitable for fabricating of variety of microcomponents. For example: microneedles—a medical microdevice component having micron features, arrays of high strength micropins and micropunches, and precisely controlled unique microstructural surfaces.

  • Patent number: 5167061
Abstract: A process for producing a niobium-tin superconductor wire made from a multifilament composite via the internal tin approach is provided for. In particular, a process of preparing such a wire via an internal tin tube surrounded by a diffusion barrier and a stabilizer, this results in a drawn wire product have improved properties and lower cost.

  • Patent number: 4973365
Abstract: The process for preparing a precursor Nb.sub.3 Sn superconductor wire first assembling a billet comprising Nb rods surrounded by Cu material. A barrier material such as Nb is placed around the Cu and an outer stabilizer tube encases the billet. The billet is then preferably hot compacted after which it is extruded at an elevated temperature. A Sn rod is placed in the center of the billet and the entire composite is then drawn and twisted to the final size desired.

  • Patent number: 4052982
Abstract: A rigid hoop having a circumference and weight suitable for rotation about a person's waist by a hula-type motion of the person includes a multiplicity of protrusions fitted about and radially extending inwardly from the inside outer surface of the hoop so that the protrusions successively engage the waist as the hoop is rotated. The protrusions have a height, measured from the inside outer surface of the hoop, of from 3 to about 30 millimeters and are shaped and spaced so as to create a multiplicity of distinct depressions as they engage the waist. The protrusions may be spaced in groups, carried on a special insert, inflatable or configured, so as to maximize skin penetration in a therapeutic manner.
