    Abstract: The tendency of nitromethane to detonate when used as a fuel in an internal combustion engine surprisingly has been found to be reduced by adding to the fuel a detonation reducing amount of an additive selected from the group consisting of nitroethane, 2-nitropropane, and mixtures thereof. Nitromethane fuel compositions having a reduced tendency to detonate are also provided.
