  • Publication number: 20050149237
Abstract: The invention relates to an information system for use with the repair of vehicles. The system comprises a database with basic vehicle details entered at the commencement of the repair and is then updated at intervals during repair so that the vehicle owner or operator, upon accessing the system, can receive an updated and accurate indication of the vehicle repair status. The system is provided on an internet site. Thus, the vehicle operator can maintain a watching brief on the repair of their vehicle without the need to visit the vehicle or make contact with the repair centre personnel and obtain repair information regardless of the actual location of the vehicle.
    Type: Application
    Filed: February 28, 2005
    Publication date: July 7, 2005

  • Patent number: 4271782
Abstract: This invention provides an improved method and apparatus for manufacturing magnetic recording media; specifically, that which is to be used in the manufacture of flexible, magnetic recording disks. The process provides a sequence of disorienting magnetic fields in different directions and of diminishing strengths to form a magnetic media in which the magnetic particles are essentially disoriented and the media is, thereby, devoid of modulated signal envelopes.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 23, 1979
Date of Patent: June 9, 1981
    Assignee: International Business Machines Corporation
Inventors: Geoffrey Bate, Larry P. Dunn

  • Patent number: 4177442
Abstract: A permanent magnet orients magnetic particles on a tape in a desired direction along the tape length (or, by rotating the magnet structure, at any desired angle to the tape length) while the tape moves past the magnet's gap. The magnet's poles are asymmetric about a time drawn through the gap center and perpendicular to the medium to first present an unfocused low intensity magnetic field to the tape followed by a narrowly focused high intensity field in the opposite direction, which latter field aligns a large proportion of the particles along desired parallel lines. Antennae attached to the pole pieces dissipate any additional undesired fields which might adversely affect the particle alignment achieved by the high intensity field.
