  • Patent number: 7662240
Abstract: The performance of a worm assembly seal is improved by (1) the use of a hardened steel worm with a bronze worm gear; (2) a tribological coating on one or both of the worm thread or spiral and the gear teeth; 3) a tribological coating on one or both of the input or output shaft or shaft sleeves; or (4) a tribological coating applied to the worm thread, the gear teeth, the input and output shafts or shaft sleeves, or combinations thereof. In each of the approaches, the worm, worm gear, and input and output shafts or shaft sleeves can have surface finishing treatments. Additionally, in each of the three approaches, carbon or carbon/nitrogen concentration gradients can be added to the worm.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 22, 2004
Date of Patent: February 16, 2010
    Assignee: The Timken Company
Inventors: Geoffrey Bishop, Carl Ribaudo, Ryan Evans, Richard Borowski
  • Patent number: 7070402
Abstract: An integrated speed reducer and gerotor pump is disclosed. The device comprises a motor, a speed reducer, and a gerotor pump. The motor provides torque at an elevated speed. The speed reducer is coupled with the motor and converts the torque at an elevated speed into torque at a reduced speed. The gerotor pump is coupled with the speed reducer and uses the torque at the reduced speed for pumping fluids.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 9, 2003
Date of Patent: July 4, 2006
    Assignee: The Timken Company
    Inventors: Xiaolan Ai, Geoffrey Bishop

  • Patent number: 6981930
Abstract: An integrated electric motor and traction drive is disclosed. The device comprises an electric motor and a traction drive. The electric motor provides power at a high angular velocity to a sun roller. The sun roller transfers the power to the traction drive which reduces the power to a lower angular velocity and delivers it via an output shaft.
