  • Patent number: 11786897
Abstract: A magnetic shape memory (MSM) microfluidic device may include a flexible membrane positioned between a channel and an MSM element. The MSM element may engage the flexible membrane to deform the channel at portions of the flexible membrane that are adjacent to non-contracted portions of the MSM element. The flexible membrane may prevent contact between a fluid within the channel and the MSM element. Magnetic field components may be applied to the MSM element and moved along the MSM element enable fluidic flow within the channel while. The device may include an upper portion including the flexible membrane and a lower portion including the MSM element. The upper portion may be interchangeable with additional upper portions.

  • Patent number: 8911083
Abstract: A system for facilitating contact lens design comprises an input unit for input of design parameters, and a processing unit for calculating a post-lens pressure profile based on the design parameters. The processing unit is arranged, in use, to perform a finite model calculation allowing for large deflection and non-linear geometry effects in the deformation of a model lens shape. Preferably the finite element model calculation utilizes solid elements of modelling the lens shape. A contact comprising a high Young's modulus material such as silicone hydrogel can be designed to have a maximum corneal or limbal post-lens pressure valve of less than 250 Pa.

  • Patent number: 8631744
Abstract: A method of blasting plural layers of material (38, 40, 42, 44) in a blastfield (16) that reduces the amount of mechanical excavation required to expose a lower layer of material. The method includes using rows of equally spaced blastholes (18, 20, 22, 24) that pass through all of the layers and additional intermediate rows of blastholes (26, 28) that pass down only through top layer (40). Each blasthole is capped with stemming material and includes one or more decks of explosives material (46) and detonators (48), with air decks or inert stemming (45) separating adjacent explosives decks (46). The detonators in layer (40) are detonated first in order from row (18) rearwards to throw a substantial amount of the blast material from layer (40) forwardly of free face (12) onto floor (34).

  • Publication number: 20070199468
Abstract: A method of blasting in which rock pile profile associated with a blast field is controlled by precise control of the detonation delay times between and/or within individual blastholes in the blast field, in combination with the control of one or more other blast parameters. One or more of the blast parameters may by blasthole geometry, explosive charge or blast initiation location.

  • Publication number: 20070132948
Abstract: A contact lens having near vision and distance vision portions, the lens being movable on the eye between first and second positions, those positions corresponding with aligning the wearer's vision through the near vision and distance vision portions respectively. The lens is positionally stable on the eye in each of the two positions, and requires a force to be applied to the lens to move between the first and second positions. Preferably the lens has a back surface and a front surface, and said back surface has either one or two major back curve zones occupying a major portion of the lens back surface.
