  • Patent number: 4902196
Abstract: A gas-moving device comprises (a) a rotor which comprises a plurality of fibres, filaments, tapes, ribbons, strips or sheets which are mounted such that on rotation of the rotor they move in one or more planes which are substantially transverse to the axis of rotation of the rotor and draw gas into the device and cause it to flow away from the said axis towards the radial periphery of the rotor; (b) one or more gas inlet zones; (c) one or more gas outlet zones; and (d) means of rotating the rotor. The device may be provided with delivery means through which a fluid may be charged to the rotor, which fluid reacts with and removes impurities from the gas.

  • Patent number: 4329217
Abstract: A diaphragm or membrane suitable for cladding a cathode box for use in an electrolytic cell and comprising a plurality of foraminate cathodes of the pocket type, the diaphragm or membrane comprising a sleeve portion and a plurality of tabs on both edges of the sleeve portion, and preferably two tabs on both edges of the sleeve portion, the dimensions of the sleeve portion being such that, when the diaphragm is positioned in a pocket of the cathode box, the edges of the sleeve portion and the tabs thereon project beyond the extremities of the pocket so that they may be joined to the tabs and sleeve portions of diaphragms or membranes in adjacent pockets of the cathode box.

  • Patent number: 4283265
Abstract: An expandable electrode for use in an electrolytic cell of the diaphragm or membrane type and comprising a pair of electrode plates bridged along one edge of each plate, and located between the plates in a plane essentially perpendicular to the faces of the plates at least one spacing member which in profile is in the form of one or more substantially wedge-shaped sections and which is movable relative to the electrode plates, the electrode plates being provided with one or more transverse members which, upon movement of the spacing member relative to the plates, is or are engaged by the wedge-shaped sections(s) of the spacing member(s) to control the spacing between the electrode plates. The spacing member preferably comprises one or more double wedge-shaped sections and the electrode plates are preferably slotted plates, for example louvred plates.
