  • Patent number: 12077363
Abstract: Method and system for storing and/or transporting temperature-sensitive materials. In one embodiment, the system is designed for use as a dry ice shipper and includes an outer box, a vacuum insulated panel (VIP) base assembly, a VIP lid assembly, and a gas flow director. The VIP base assembly is positioned within the outer box and includes five VIPs arranged to form a container having a bottom, four sides, and an open top. The VIP lid assembly, which may be coupled to a top closure flap of the outer box, includes a VIP dimensioned to close the open top of the VIP base assembly. The gas flow director, which may comprise a bag having an opening at its top end, may be positioned within the outer box and may be used to receive the VIP base assembly. The gas flow director inhibits convective gas flow that promotes excessive dry ice sublimation.

  • Patent number: 12056654
Abstract: Method and system for customized configuration of a shipper for transporting temperature-sensitive materials. In one embodiment, a webpage application is used to allow a user to input certain information. Such information may include the shipping origin zip code, the shipping destination zip code, an indication of the courier used to transport the shipper, an indication of the desired temperature range at which the materials are to be maintained by the shipper, and an indication of the maximum payload size desired. Based on the inputted information and a selection methodology that determines the average ambient temperature to which the shipper will likely be exposed, a shipper is then selected from among a pre-selected collection of possible shipper configurations. Such a collection may include, for example, configurations designed to protect against hot ambient temperatures, cold ambient temperatures and intermediate ambient temperatures.

  • Publication number: 20130017421
Abstract: A battery system monitors the status of a battery and ensures safe conditions under a range of events adversely affecting the safety of the battery cells, the battery pack or enclosure, or a vehicle housing the battery. In response to the safety event, the battery system provides one or more responses to secure the battery, disconnect the battery, extinguish a fire, or maintain a safe temperature. Upon detecting the safety event, the a controller activates the safety device accordingly to ensure safe conditions.

  • Patent number: 6618541
Abstract: A fiber-locating structure for aligning an optical fiber includes opposed first and second faces. A first wall, defining a funnel, extends from the first face toward the second face; while a second wall, defining a tunnel, extends from the second face toward the first face. The first and second walls are disposed such that the funnel and the tunnel meet to form a continuous passageway between the first face and the second face.

  • Publication number: 20030080086
Abstract: A method of forming fiber arrays includes using a base substrate to form an alignment pattern, holding a fiber fixed with reference to the pattern, and, while the fiber is held fixed, bonding a cap to the fiber, the cap being of a material having a different coefficient of thermal expansion than the base substrate. The base substrate can be an etched silicon chip and the cap can be of a fused silicon material. The method provides one and two dimensional arrays of fibers, the fiber aligning structures of the arrays having coefficients of thermal expansion selected to match those of connecting components. A fiber array made by the method includes a pair of substrates, a fiber sandwiched between the substrates, and a molded material holding the fiber in a predetermined alignment with respect to a pattern preformed in the molded material.
