  • Patent number: 11033371
Abstract: A pump assembly for a dental cleaning appliance includes a fluid chamber, a piston, and a drive. The drive rotates a coupling member having two angularly opposed pins. An arm pivotably connected to the piston has a seat for receiving one of the pins to couple the piston to the drive. Through continued rotation of the coupling member, the piston moves within the fluid chamber to draw fluid into the fluid chamber until the second detent contacts the arm to push it away from the first detent to decouple the drive from the piston. This allows a compressed spring to actuate the piston to urge a burst of fluid from the fluid chamber.

  • Publication number: 20090092722
Abstract: A juice extractor for extracting juice from comestibles such as fruit and vegetables includes at least one wall delimiting a cavity for receiving the comestible and that has a longitudinal axis. At least a part of the wall of the cavity is moveable transversely towards the longitudinal axis so as to apply a compressive force to the comestible in a substantially radial direction relative to the longitudinal axis. This results in good juice extraction while reducing the risk of the skin of the comestible splitting for a variety of comestible sizes. The risk of contamination by zest or peel oil is therefore reduced. The juice extractor is suitable for domestic use and requires no preparation of the comestibles prior to the juice extraction process being carried out.

  • Patent number: 7197783
Abstract: An appliance having a driving mechanism is provided, the appliance (10) comprising two rotatable portions (32, 34) which are rotatable by the driving mechanism (50) about an axis (40). The driving mechanism (50) comprises a gearbox (60) having an input gear (116), two output gears (240, 304) and a locking mechanism (250, 252, 318) movable between a first position and a second position. The arrangement is such that, when the locking mechanism (250, 252, 318) is in the first position and the input gear (116) is driven, both output gears (240, 304) rotate in the same direction and, when the locking mechanism (250, 252, 318) is in the second position and the input gear (116) is driven, the output gears (240, 304) rotate in opposite directions. The arrangement of the axis (40) is horizontal or substantially horizontal. The invention is particularly suitable for use in a front-loading washing machine (10) having a drum (30) comprising two rotatable portions (32, 34).

  • Patent number: 6349738
Abstract: A bleed valve for introducing bled fluid to a mainstream fluid flowing through apparatus across which a pressure differential occurs, characterized in that the bleed valve is adapted to open so as to bleed fluid into the mainstream fluid when the pressure differential across the apparatus falls below a predetermined value. This arrangement is particularly appropriate to vacuum cleaners incorporating cyclonic dust-separating apparatus in that the bleed valve is more reliably operated in response to a reduction in airflow. This ensures efficient functioning of the cyclonic dust-separating apparatus and reduces the risk of overheating of the motor.
