Publication number: 20230363826Abstract: Robotic medical systems may recommend poses for robotic arms based on patient and medical procedure information and communicate the recommended poses to users of the robotic medical systems. The robotic medical systems may include robotic arms and processor(s). The robotic medical systems may be configured to obtain images of a patient, simulate a medical procedure to identify collisions, and select poses based on a number of collisions. The robotic medical systems may provide information indicating the recommended poses.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 28, 2023Publication date: November 16, 2023Inventors: Geoffrey Robert Russell, Kieran Anthony Coghlan

Publication number: 20230346198Abstract: Communication apparatus and devices for surgical robotic systems are described. The communication apparatus can include a user console in communication with a communication device having a surgical tool. The communication device can include a microphone to convert a sound input into an acoustic input signal. The communication device can transmit the acoustic input signal to the user console for reproduction as a sound output for a remote operator. The surgical tool can include an endoscope having several microphones mounted on a housing. The surgical tool can be a sterile barrier having a microphone and a drape. The microphone(s) of the surgical tools can face a surrounding environment such that a tableside staff is a source of the sound input that causes the sound output, and a surgeon and the tableside staff can communicate in a noisy environment. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 30, 2023Publication date: November 2, 2023Inventors: Denise Ann Miller, Joan Savall, Geoffrey Robert Russell

Publication number: 20230081437Abstract: Robotic medical systems can generate recommended port locations for a patient and communicate the recommended port locations to users of the robotic medical systems. A robotic medical system can include a robotic arm and one or more processors in communication with a 3-D scanner. The robotic medical system can be configured to obtain, via the 3-D scanner, data including a view of a patient of the robotic medical system, determine a recommended port location for the patient in accordance with the obtained data, and provide information indicating the recommended port location for the patient.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 6, 2022Publication date: March 16, 2023Inventor: Geoffrey Robert RUSSELL

Publication number: 20220104695Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for an endoscope or other surgical instruments to automatically sense when it's placed inside or outside of a trocar or a cannula. Operational setting of the endoscope may be adjusted as a function of the detected environmental condition to improve the function of the endoscope and the safety of a surgical procedure. The endoscope may include a sensor to sense a tag embedded in a trocar or cannula. The endoscope may transmit sensing information to a controller of a surgical robotic system to indicate that the endoscope has been inserted into the trocar or cannula. The controller may generate configuration information corresponding to the sensed state. The controller may transmit the configuration information to the endoscope to configure the endoscope to operate in the state. In another aspect, the endoscope may wirelessly communicate with another surgical instrument to receive operational information from the surgical instrument.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 2, 2020Publication date: April 7, 2022Inventor: Geoffrey Robert Russell
