  • Patent number: 7022774
Abstract: Poly(ethylene-co-syndiotactic propylene) functionalized with group(s), that enable crosslinking, e.g., vinyl or anhydride group(s), in admixture with crosslinking agent and filler is subjected to crosslinking reaction to provide filled copolymer. The presence of propylene in syndiotactic sequences provides lower entanglement molecular weight compared to other propylene placement and therefore allows more filler to be present than for other propylene placement. Crosslinking provides filled materials with good elastomeric properties.

  • Patent number: 6608170
Abstract: Syndiotactic poly(lactic acid) is formed by polymerization involving a cleavage of the same oxygen-acyl bond in a series of meso-lactide molecules to form polymer containing a series of units with stereocenters wherein adjacent stereocenters are of the opposite stereochemistry. The mechanism is catalyzed by chiral metal alkoxides that afford stereocontrol such as those formed by reacting or the opposite enantiomer with Al(OR)3 where R is straight chain or branched alkyl containing 1 to 20 carbon atoms, e.g., methyl or isopropyl, in solvent, with subsequent evaporation of solvent in vacuo.

  • Patent number: 6566544
Abstract: This invention is directed to novel catalysts the structure and activity of which can be controlled to produce a wide range of alpha olefin polymers and co-polymers, and preferably for the production of stereoblock poly alpha olefins comprising a wide range of preselected amorphous and crystalline segments for precise control of the physical properties thereof, principally elastomeric thermoplastic properties. More specifically, this invention is directed to novel catalysts and catalysts systems for producing stereoblock polypropylene comprising alternating isotactic and atactic diastereosequences, which result in a wide range of elastomeric properties. The amount and numbers of crystalline sections, the isotactic pentad content, the number and length of intermediate atactic chains and overall molecular weight are all controllable by the steric structure of the catalysts and the process conditions.
