  • Publication number: 20040020630
Abstract: A thin-strip casting device (1) assures across the entire selected range of the width an about constant production of thin-strip (12) without requiring artificially extended charging times of the steel plant installed upstream. A multitude of interchangeable pairs of casting rollers (2) having different casting roller diameters “D” depending on the strip width “B” to be cast, are associated with the thin-strip casting device (1).

  • Patent number: 6082237
Abstract: A device for cropping and deflecting a wire-rod strand moving at high speed, comprising two rotating cutter heads, each having a cutter and arranged one on top of the other, one cutter being a leading cutter and the other cutter being a trailing cutter, and a switch tube arranged between the two cutter heads, for forcibly guiding wire-rod strand between the two cutter heads to separate a head piece of the wire-rod strand not conforming to the quality requirements from the strand. There is an outlet having guide channels separated from each other for receiving the head piece of the wire-rod strand and the wire-rod strand. There is a fin arranged on each of the cutter heads, a leading fin directly in front of the leading cutter in the direction of rotation of the corresponding cutter head, and a trailing fin directly behind the trailing cutter in the direction of rotation of the corresponding cutter head.

  • Patent number: 5031687
Abstract: A device is described for straightening a curved steel strand cast continuously by means of a casting wheel machine or a curved mold continuously casting machine. The strand is passed between straightening points with rolls, such as straightening, bending, guide, counter rolls and/or corresponding roll pairs, in accordance with a certain physical law, whereby at least two roll pairs applying bending moments to the strand are provided. The first roll pair is at the same time the roll pair located in the direction of travel of the strand directly downstream of the point of emergence of the strand from the casting machine or is formed by the casting wheel (of the curved mold) itself and a corresponding straightening roll. The second roll pair determines transition of the strand from a finite radius or curvature to a straight line (infinite radius of curvature) at the end of the bending zone. Between these two roll pairs other rolls can be located exclusively along the outside of the strand.

  • Patent number: 4832177
Abstract: A hinged channel for receiving steel bars (11, 12), cut to predetermined lengths and discharged from a rolling mill is described. The steel bars are slowed down during or at the end of entry into the hinged channel. After stopping or just before stopping, they are fed onto an underlying cooling bed by opening the hinged channel. The hinged channel has at least two parallel, randomly chargeable channels (5, 6) with different cross-sections. As a function of the cross-section or diameter of the discharged steel bar either the channel with the smaller diameter or that with the larger diameter is charged. A common pivotable cover (10) is provided for both channels, which closes the same in one position and releases the same in the other position so that the steel bar located in one of the channels can drop onto the cooling bed.

  • Patent number: 4071073
Abstract: A roller apron framework or strand guide framework for supporting a partially solidified strand in a continuous casting installation, especially for casting slabs, comprising a number of rollers mounted within the maximum slab width. Guide rings are arranged in overhung position upon bearing journals provided for an intermediate portion of the guide rollers, the bearing journals protruding outwardly past the bearings of the rollers.

  • Patent number: 4071074
Abstract: A roller apron for a continuous casting installation and serving to support a partially solidified strand cast at a continuous casting installation, especially a steel strand. The roller apron comprises a number of pairs of rollers of different diameter arranged in succession in the direction of travel of the strand. The cast strand is preferably a slab and there are arranged in alternate sequence in the roller apron larger size rollers mounted externally of the maximum slab width and one or more smaller size rollers, wherein each such smaller size roller has at least one of its bearings or supports mounted within the maximum slab width.
