  • Patent number: 7570013
Abstract: A rechargeable battery pack (20), in particular, for use with electrical hand tool devices, comprises a first and a second charging connection (24, 26), and a third control connection (28), all three being connectable to a charging device (46) for producing a charging connection, and with a calculating means (30) which can be addressed via an interface circuit (32), wherein the interface circuit uses the third control connection (28). In order to prevent destruction of the rechargeable battery pack due to erroneous charging, a non-linear component (34) is disposed in the interface circuit (32) which, upon control of the interface circuit (32) by the charging device (46), can be distinguished from an NTC component, thereby permitting detection of the rechargeable battery type when the calculating means (30) provides no identification information in response to control by the charging device (46).

  • Patent number: 7362075
Abstract: The present invention relates to a battery charger for charging a battery. The present invention especially relates to a battery charger comprising a switching power supply controlled on the primary side and a charge monitoring circuit for monitoring the charge state of the battery. For providing an improved battery charger which allows a secure and reliable charging of batteries with a reduction of the circuit complexity, the costs for appliances and the construction size, the charge monitoring circuit is—according to the invention—disposed in the switching circuit on the primary side of the battery charger.

Abstract: The invention concerns a rechargeable battery pack (20), in particular, for use with electrical hand tool devices, comprising a first and a second charging connection (24, 26), and a third control connection (28), all three being connectable to a charging device (46) for producing a charging connection, and with a calculating means (30) which can be addressed via an interface circuit (32), wherein the interface circuit uses the third control connection (28). In order to prevent destruction of the rechargeable battery pack due to erroneous charging, the invention proposes provision of a non-linear component (34) in the interface circuit (32) which, upon control of the interface circuit (32) by the charging device (46), can be distinguished from an NTC component, thereby permitting detection of the rechargeable battery type when the calculating means (30) provides no identification information in response to control by the charging device (46).

  • Patent number: 6906498
Abstract: The present invention relates to a device and a method for the detection of a charging voltage of at least one rechargeable battery comprising a voltage converter for converting the charging voltage of the at least one rechargeable battery into a voltage signal, an analog/digital converter for converting the voltage signal of the voltage converter into a digital signal, and an evaluation and control device for evaluating the digital signal of the analog/digital converter as well as for controlling the charging process of the at least one rechargeable battery on the basis of the evaluation of the digital signal of the analog/digital converter. The voltage converter comprises an amplifier circuit with a variable gain controlled by at least one control output terminal of the evaluation and control device such that the gain applied for the generation of the voltage signal is adjusted to the input voltage range of the analog/digital converter according to a transfer function.
