  • Publication number: 20080128982
Abstract: The invention relates to a gripper system (100) for a cylinder (3) of a sheet-fed printing press (1) which guides sheets and which is used to detect printed sheets. Said system comprises a gripping shaft (9) and grippers (8) which are arranged on the gripper shaft (9) and which, during a synchronised normal operation, can be introduced into a cylinder channel of a cylinder (3) which guides the sheet, by means of a pivoting movement of gripper shaft (9), such that the gripper (8) is arranged completely in the cylinder contour after pivoting. According to the invention, the gripper system (100) can be displaced in a radial manner during a cylinder phase displacement such that the grippers (8) of the gripper system (100) enter into a recess and strike an elastically mounted gripper strike bar (10) which enables the gripper (8) to be struck during the radial displacement of the gripper system (100).

  • Patent number: 6718908
Abstract: A coating machine for applying a flowable coating substance to a sheet material to improve its surface. The coating machine has a series construction which lends itself to easy modification and versatile use. The coating machine includes, in a sheet conveyance direction, a first coating unit for applying a flowable substance to a front side of the sheet material, a sheet turning unit for reversing the position of the sheet, a first coating unit for applying a flowable substance to a reverse side of the sheet material, and sheet delivery unit. The coating units may have similar or identical constructions with interchangeable dosing systems.

  • Patent number: 6349641
Abstract: A feeder unit for a sheet-processing machine having a plurality of processing units is provided. The feeder unit includes a feeder, a feed table, and a feed drum. The feed drum is double-sized or larger in that it has a diameter at least twice that of the diameter of the plate or blanket cylinder of at least one of the processing units of the sheet-processing machine. The feed drum includes at least two gripper systems distributed symmetrically on a periphery of the feed drum. The feed drum is arranged with its rotational axis on or offset vertically above a horizontal plane formed by the rotational axes of the printing cylinders in the processing units. Each gripper system is pivotally supported on the feed drum and includes a gripper shaft, at least one gripper arranged on the gripper shaft, a gripper stop bar associated with the gripper, and a front guide arranged on the gripper stop bar.

  • Patent number: 6343548
Abstract: A sheet-fed printing machine having a control console at the downstream end of a sheet transfer system which transfers printed sheets to a delivery unit. The control console has an inclined proof sheet support surface disposed in direct overlying relation to the delivery unit and sheet transfer system upon which a proof sheet withdrawn from the delivery unit may be positioned and assessed for quality. The support surface further includes control elements for directly adjusting and controlling printing quality based upon assessment of the proof sheet. With the control console support surface in overlying relation to the sheet transfer system and the delivery unit, the support surface is at a height which can be comfortably used by an operator of average height and does not impede access to the end of the printing machine nor increase its overall length.

  • Patent number: 4522388
Abstract: A sheet feeding assembly for a printing press including a feed table having a set of front stops and which is inclined downwardly so that a sheet travels toward the front edge of the table where it is temporarily retained in registered position. A port connected to a source of compressed air extends through the table at a position spaced from the front edge of the table. A rear feed plate is seated on the table upstream of the port and a front feed plate is seated on the table downstream of the port, the plates being substantially coplanar with their respective front and rear edges in proximity and uniformly spaced with respect to one another. The front edge portion of the rear feed plate is undercut to form an overhang which defines a transversely extending air conducting cavity which overlaps the port so that an air blast is directed at an angle upwardly and forwardly of the table to lubricate the passing sheet and to urge the sheet in the direction of the front stop.

  • Patent number: 4372204
Abstract: A lithographic sheet fed press having means for clearing a jamming condition in which a plurality of sheets become wedged between the blanket and impression cylinders. The blanket cylinder is journaled in eccentric bushings having respective operating arms. Toggle linkages are respectively interposed between each arm and the associated frame plate and settable in a slightly overcenter operating condition for maintaining normal printing pressure between the blanket cylinder and the impression cylinder. A toggle-breaking power actuator is laterally coupled to the toggle linkages for breaking the same to the opposite side of dead center. A back-off power actuator is coupled to the bushings for imparting substantial rotation to the bushings accompanied by relief of pressure and full collapse of the toggle linkages with scissoring action. The actuators are energized in sequence to secure (a) release of the toggle linkages and (b) backing off of the blanket cylinder from the impression cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4033261
Abstract: A drive connection between a sleeve on the printing cylinder of a printing press and a hub on the associated driving gear, the hub being freely telescoped over the surface of the sleeve and the sleeve and hub having radially opposed grooves occupied by a key in the form of an entrainer. The entrainer includes two complimentary wedge portions which are mated along a substantially radially extending plane which is arranged at a shallow angle to the cylinder axis. The entrainer presents parallel lateral surfaces which register with the groove in the hub while only one of the wedge portions registers with the groove in the sleeve.
