  • Publication number: 20140196621
Abstract: A method and apparatus for printing on a printing material web is disclosed. A rotary offset printing machine includes a printing unit with two plate cylinders and a blanket cylinder. The blanket cylinder prints on the printing material web and the two plate cylinders are arranged relative to each other such that respective images from the two plate cylinders are transferred to an identical position on the blanket cylinder during the printing.

  • Patent number: 7350464
Abstract: In order to provide a printing unit (1; 50) of modular design with the lowest possible expenditure on construction and high flexibility, the printing unit (1; 50) of modular design for printing webs (29) has a stand (2; 2?; 54), which is provided with at least one crossmember (3; 4; 51) at both ends (drive and operating side), printing cylinders (9 to 16) being mounted in the crossmembers (3; 4; 51) in such a way that a structural unit comprising crossmembers (3; 4; 51) and printing cylinders (9 to 16) can be taken completely out of and put into the stand (2; 2?; 54).

  • Publication number: 20070261576
Abstract: A reel-fed rotary printing press including printing units for printing at least one web, wherein each printing unit includes a form cylinder with a circumference defining a circumferential direction and a length defining a longitudinal direction. The form cylinder can be lined with at least two broadsheet pages extending upright in the circumferential direction, and at least two broadsheet pages extending widthwise in the longitudinal direction. In order to produce tabloid products while maintaining their book structure, the form cylinder can also be lined with at least two tabloid pages extending upright in the circumferential direction, and at least two tabloid pages extending widthwise in the longitudinal direction.

  • Publication number: 20070101881
Abstract: The printing press for producing newspapers includes several unwinders from which coldset webs can be unreeled, coldset printing couples for printing the coldset webs with coldset inks, coldset formers and a coldset folder for processing the coldset webs into longitudinally and transversely folded coldset signatures. The printing press also includes an additional unwinder from which a heatset web can be unreeled, heatset printing couples for printing the heatset web with heatset inks, a dryer for drying the printed heatset web, a heatset former and a heatset folder for processing the heatset web into a longitudinally and transversely folded heatset signature. Finally, a processing device processes the heatset signature into a magazine.

  • Patent number: 5622114
Abstract: A method for adjusting contact between two rollers of a printing mechanism of a rotary printing press, which rollers are adjustable relative to one another. The method includes separating the rollers so that a gap exists therebetween, inserting a piezofilm of known thickness into the gap between the rollers at one end of the rollers and moving the rollers toward one another on the one end until the piezofilm transmits an output signal when the two rollers first make contact. Then, the rollers are separated and the piezofilm is removed from the roller gap. The piezofilm is next inserted into the gap between the rollers at the other end of the rollers after which the rollers are moved toward one another at the other end until the piezofilm transmits an output signal when the rollers first make contact. The rollers are once again separated and the piezofilm removed from the roller gap. Finally, the rollers are adjusted toward one another at both ends by an amount corresponding to the piezofilm thickness.

  • Patent number: 5517919
Abstract: A method for adjusting contact between two rollers of a printing mechanism of a rotary printing press, which rollers are adjustable with respect to their distance relative to one another. The method includes separating the two rollers, driving a first one of the rollers at a first speed, moving the rollers toward one another on one end until they reach a point where the first roller drives a second roller, and sensing rotation of the second roller and registering value data representing the point where the first roller drives the second roller. Next, the rollers are separated after the value data has been registered. Following this separation the method continues with moving the rollers toward one another on a second end until the first roller drives the second roller, sensing rotation of the second roller and stopping movement of the rollers at the second end when rotation of the second roller is sensed. Finally, the first end is adjusted to the point where the first roller drives the second roller.

  • Patent number: 5179899
Abstract: Two satellite printing stations (2, 3) are located vertically above each other, and a web (22) is guided first about a common impression cylinder (13) of the lower printing station, then upwardly about a common impression cylinder (4) of the upper printing station (2). To prevent set-off of freshly printed ink in the lower printing station (3) on the common impression cylinder (4) of the upper printing station, blanket cylinders (6, 7, 10, 12) of the upper printing station (2) are so located that, respectively, two blanket cylinders (6, 7, 10, 12) of printing couples of the upper printing stations are in vertical alignment so that a tangent at the nip between these blanket cylinders will be in an essentially horizontal plane (31).
