  • Patent number: 5265861
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the stacking of paper engages the oncoming sheets at their rear ends between clamping elements on upper and lower belts and is so provided that the rear ends are deflected perpendicular to the direction of feed so that the oncoming sheets can effectively shingle over underlying sheets. The clamping portions are engaged at the feeding speed of the sheets at the moment of initial contact, are then slowed down to reduce the speed of the sheets, then release the sheets and then return to the usual speed for the pickup of the next sheet.

  • Patent number: 5074743
Abstract: A layboy for depositing sheets, especially sheets of paper, on a stack by count, with a layoff platform that travels up and down; forks that are positioned at the rear of the stack and that travel horizontally into and out of the vicinity of the stack and up and down; and an auxiliary stack platform that travels up and down and into the vicinity of the layoff platform behind the stack. To deposit sheets more rapidly onto relatively low stacks without losing sheets, the layboy includes at least three independently moving forks (20.1, 20.2 and 20.3); positioning mechanisms (23 and 25) that travel up and down behind the stack and engage and position the forks while they are in the vicinity of the stack; and a lift (24) positioned behind and away from the stack with a device (26) for gripping and moving the forks away from the stack, for lifting them up to the infeed level, and for introducing them into the vicinity of the stack and transferring them to the engaging and positioning mechanisms.

  • Patent number: 4386741
Abstract: An apparatus for the unwinding of multiple webs which comprises an unwinding stand with bearing brackets for a plurality of web rolls and, preceding said stand, a storage medium for a plurality of web rolls, wherein the storage medium is preceded by an aligning apparatus which aligns each web roll with respect to its axial and angular positions and transfers it to a conveyor of the storage medium which carries it to the unwinding stand. The conveyor is provided with a plurality of holding cribs that are spaced apart the same distance as the bearing brackets and hold the web rolls transferred to them in their aligned position.

  • Patent number: 4196866
Abstract: An apparatus for unwinding rolls of sheet material and for adhering the end of one roll to the beginning of the next at full running speed, without interruption. Means are also provided to permit operation with rolls of different widths and even with two narrow rolls alongside one another. A support which can be operatively positioned between two such narrow rolls can be moved laterally out of the way to take up an end-supporting position when a single wide roll is being unwound.
