  • Publication number: 20080031774
Abstract: A system has utility is guiding and tracking the execution of manual procedures. The system includes a support that holds multiple sample receptacles, computational circuitry to execute a protocol script that delivers instructions for executing various steps of the procedure, and a protocol progress sensor that advances the execution of the protocol script. The computer may be comparable in size to a support for holding the receptacles The receptacles be arranged in a frame, may be sealed with peelable or puncturable films and may include identifiers that are read by the system. The receptacles may be filled with a high heat capacity material to maintain a given temperature range. A variety of companion devices may interact with the system using the protocol script. An instrumented pipettor can communicate with the system for semi-automated execution of protocols.

  • Publication number: 20050246261
Abstract: Method and system for block trading of securities. Embodiments of the present invention can provide an automated dealer system that formulates customized, risk-controlled, two-sided indicative quotations for block quantities of a security. A quotation can be delivered to requesting counterparties via a secured network or Web-based platform. The system can also allow counterparties to submit orders for block trades based on the customized quotations. A customized quote can be based on the size of the block and historical characteristics of the security. The quoting service can be customized to take into account a minimum premium to be charged for a trade, profitability considerations discounts, and time considerations.

  • Patent number: 6919076
Abstract: Methods, products, compositions and kits are provided for attaching agents to tissue with a linking molecule in the presence of transglutaminase. The linking molecule and/or agent is a substrate of transglutaminase. The agent can be a nonprotein or an enzyme such as cholinesterase or phosphodiesterase. The transglutaminase may be exogenously added or be endogenous in tissue. In specific embodiments, the agent is not a transglutaminase substrate and the linking molecule is a substrate for transglutaminase containing at least two contiguous linked glutamines or at least three contiguous linked lysines, and may be a polymer. A conjugate of the agent and the linking molecule may be applied to tissue, and in the presence of transglutaminase covalently bonded to the tissue via the linking molecule.

  • Publication number: 20050069913
Abstract: This invention relates to methods and apparatus for performing microanalytic and microsynthetic analyses and procedures. The invention provides a microsystem platform and a micromanipulation device for manipulating the platform that utilizes the centripetal force resulting from rotation of the platform to motivate fluid movement through microchannels. The microsystem, platforms of the invention are also optionally provided having system informatics and data acquisition, analysis and storage and retrieval informatics encoded on the surface of the disk opposite to the surface containing the fluidic components. Methods specific for the apparatus of the invention for performing any of a wide variety of microanalytical or microsynthetic processes are provided.

  • Patent number: 5993593
Abstract: Apparatus for manufacturing heat sealed products from high temperature film materials exhibiting superior barrier properties, such as films made from LCP resin. The apparatus has in relevant part a first compression member having a heating element that is capable of being continuously or intermittently heated to a temperature of about 300.degree. C. (c. 575.degree. F.) backed by a layer of material capable of supporting the heating element, a second compression member that opposes the first compression member and having an electrically conductive tubular sealing element, capable of being flash-heated by means of a pulse of electric current to a temperature of about 425.degree. C. (c. 800.degree. F.) and immediately flash-cooled to room temperature or below by means of forcing vortex-chilled coolant fluid through the tubular lumen, backed by a layer of material capable of supporting the sealing element, and two floating sheets or tapes of high-temperature release material disposed therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4955866
Abstract: A recapping device is provided for use with medical devices including all hollow and solid medical needles of the type used for entry into the body and into closed intravenous and intraarterial systems for access, sampling, and injection of medications, and are withdrawn after use. The recapping device includes a hollow sleeve encircling a portion of the needle and having a distal end aperture adapted to permit the sleeve to slide between a first position on the medical device wherein the needle is exposed to enable use of the needle, and a second position characterized by the distal end of the needle being contained within the distal end capped hollow sleeve, and the device may optionally contain a housing for a free-floating fenestrated disk, which, upon movement of the device to its second position wherein the tip of the needle exits the distal end aperture, shifts position to provide an obstruction at that aperture.

  • Patent number: 4108578
Abstract: This disclosure pertains to a plurality of individual floats, each connected to an individual shaft. A pier is provided which supports the shafts in a substantially vertical direction. The shafts are free to move vertically as the floats rise and descend in accordance with the waves and tides at the ocean front. Each shaft is connected to a rotary hydraulic pump which is caused to rotate as the float ascends and descends. The pump in turn charges a tank with oil at high pressure, which in turn is fed to an engine. The engine drives an electric generator.
