  • Patent number: 7842162
Abstract: A method is provided for manufacturing paper by means of layer-by-layer nanocoating techniques. The method comprises the sequential processing of an aqueous pulp of lignocellulose fibers which is first subjected to nanocoating by alternatively adsorbing onto the fibers multiple consecutively-applied layers of oppositely-charged nanoparticles, polymers and/or proteins thereby making a modified aqueous pulp of multi-layer nanocoated lignocellulose fibers, then draining the water out of the modified pulp to form sheets of multi-layer nanocoated fibers, and drying the formed sheets of multi-layer nanocoated fibers. The resulting dried sheets are then processed to make a finished paper that has superior physical strength and improved surface properties.

  • Patent number: 4933232
Abstract: A binder/release system for the preparation of molded articles, especially lignocellulosic composites, which utilizes in combination with isocyanate-based binders a fatty material as an internal and/or external release agent, the fatty material being at least one polymerized fatty acid and/or at least one polycarboxyl compound containing a polymeric fatty radical(s).

Date of Patent: June 12, 1990
    Assignee: Jim Walter Research Corp.
Inventors: Kenneth G. Trout, George A. Grozdits, Ernest K. Moss, James F. Daly
  • Patent number: 4898776
Abstract: A synthetic board is prepared by a process of contacting lignocellulosic material with a binder and subsequently forming the treated material into a board by the application of heat and pressure, wherein (a) the binder comprises an organic polyisocyanate and a reactive hydrogen-containing component, especially an aromatic polyester polyol, and (b) the lignocellulosic material is additionally contracted with a surfactant.
