  • Patent number: 6436225
Abstract: The present invention relates to film laminating adhesive (FLA) compositions comprising an N-methylol-based polyacrylic dispersion and polyalkyleneimine (PAI) and laminates thereof, a method for bonding substrates together using these compositions and a method for preparing these compositions.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 3, 1997
Date of Patent: August 20, 2002
Assignee: H. B. Fuller Licensing & Financing Inc.
    Inventor: George A. Papsin, Jr.
  • Patent number: 6281298
Abstract: The present invention relates to water-based pressure sensitive adhesives comprising at least one water-based polymer and at least one aminoplast resins such as melamine-formaldehyde resins, urea-formaldehyde resins, alkylated melamine-formaldehyde resins and combinations thereof. More particularly, the invention relates to water-based pressure sensitive adhesives comprising the reaction product of aqueous polymer dispersions and water dispersible melamine-formaldehyde resins. The pressure sensitive adhesives are characterized as having enhanced bonding characteristics including loop tack, peel strength, and shear strength making them particularly useful for the manufacture of dry-bonded laminates, tapes, labels, medical patches and devices, flexible packages, furnace ducts, exterior insulating finish system and the like.

  • Patent number: 6248815
Abstract: The present invention relates to a water based laminating adhesive composition and a method of using thereof. More particularly, the invention relates to a water-based laminating adhesive comprising: a first component comprising at least one aqueous vinyl polymer dispersion (A) comprising the reaction product of i) at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer; ii) at least one free radical initiator; and iii) optionally, at least one ethylenically unsaturated oligomer; and b) a second component comprising at least one water dispersible polyfunctional aziridine crosslinking agent (B). The adhesive optionally comprises at least one aqueous polyurethane polymer dispersion (C). Improved bonded properties of dry laminated flexible film substrates such as polyolefin, polyester and polyamide, as well as cellophane, metals or paper are obtained.

  • Patent number: 5403894
Abstract: Redispersible polymer powders made by core-shell polymers having an alkali-soluble emulsion polymer shell and an aqueous-insoluble emulsion polymer core wherein the core and the shell polymers are chemically grafted by utilizing a polyfunctional compound. The core-shell polymers are produced by a two-stage sequential emulsion polymerization process in which an alkali-insoluble emulsion polymer core is polymerized in the presence of an alkali-solubilized emulsion polymer. When the core-shell polymer powders of this invention are employed as a cement modifier, improvements in the powder physical properties and cement mortar properties are realized.

  • Patent number: 5059456
Abstract: A method for improving the quality of a mastic coating system by using a latex barrier tiecoat which is composed of a water-insoluble latex polymer and a multivalent metal ion. The tiecoat is applied to a substrate and then a mastic coating is applied to the tiecoat to yield a mastic coating system having excellent resistance to blistering when the mastic coating system is exposed to long-term ponded water.
