  • Patent number: 8850681
Abstract: A modular case and method of forming the same, the case preferably formed from a plurality of panels, edge members and corner pieces having ribs. The panels, edge members and corner pieces are preferably connected to align the ribs, forming substantially continuous ribs capable of distributing forces over a large area of the modular case. The case is most preferably made of plastic, the connections preferably being hot-plate welds. Most preferably, the panels and edge members have a dual skin construction with internal ribs, proving for greater strength and allowing for superior structural properties including air-/water-tight integrity. Edge members are preferably formed with protuberances to allow for better base-to-lid and case-to-case engagement. Hardware attachments to the modular case can be advantageously made while distributing the force on attachment points and without compromising structural integrity.

  • Patent number: 8851017
Abstract: An imaging system that allows for unhindered access to a sample to be imaged. A housing structure is configured with a drawer having a platform. The platform may be configured to hold a sample, such as an animal, and/or the platform may be configured to mate with a sample holding member, such as a removable carrying tray for holding the sample. The drawer presents the platform to an imaging device or system internal to the housing when in a closed, or imaging, state. When in an extended state, the drawer presents the platform external to the housing to allow unobstructed manipulation of a sample on the drawer platform (or on the sample holding member on the platform). When used, a sample holding member such as a removable carrying tray may be docked with the drawer platform, and various interconnects, such as gas ports and electrical connectors, on the sample holding member engage with corresponding elements on the platform when docked.

  • Patent number: 8853639
Abstract: A CMOS image sensor array has rows and columns of active pixels, and column lines in communication with the active pixels in the respective columns. Each active pixel has an output connected to a column line and includes a photodetector that produces a signal proportional to incident light intensity that is coupled to an active pixel output based on column select and row select signals. Each active pixel has a reset transistor for resetting the active pixel, wherein each reset transistor has a first gate terminal and a second gate terminal. The reset transistors have a variable threshold capability that allows increased sensor array dynamic range or mitigation of the effects of temperature or radiation induced transistor threshold voltage shifts. Row select, column select, and sense transistors can also be configured to have variable thresholds.

  • Publication number: 20140297717
Abstract: A technique for capturing the output of a software application, controlled by an end-user of a client computer, on a server computer. The data may be captured from a hosted application running on the server computer, an application simulating the operations of an application used by the end-user on the client computer, or from a capture stream sent by an application on the client computer. A capture engine stores the capture data on the server computer without consuming processing or memory resources of the client computer. Furthermore, the capture data is immediately available on the server computer for sharing and publication, without consuming network bandwidth or a long upload delay.

  • Publication number: 20140297560
Abstract: A computer-implemented method and electronic system periodically select portfolio weightings for each of the plurality of assets to rebalance the investment portfolio at a pre-specified frequency. With a risk free asset, the portfolio can be optimal by maximizing long term expected return rate while constraining the risk of losses within a pre-determined limit. Rather than return standard deviation, a portfolio risk measure called Rolling Economic Drawdown (REDD) is invented. Considering current and historical risk free interest rates, REDD represents the maximum economic opportunity loss within a rolling time window of fixed or variable look-back length. The pre-determined limit for REDD can be selected as complement of constant relative risk aversion coefficient, reflecting the level of risk tolerance. The dynamic weighting of each risky asset can be derived from the assets' long term expected Sharpe ratios and the assets' shorter term updated measure of correlations and volatilities.

Abstract: Methods, devices, and computer program products for synchronization of wireless devices in a peer-to-peer network are described herein. In one aspect, a method for synchronizing a wireless communication apparatus is provided. The method includes receiving one or more synchronization messages, each synchronization message having timing information and a cluster identifier, the timing information comprising anchor timing information, the cluster identifier being the same value as a cluster identifier of the apparatus. The method further includes determining whether a difference between a time value when a received synchronization message last received anchor timing information and a time value maintained for the apparatus is greater than a threshold. The method further includes discarding the received synchronization message if the difference exceeds the threshold.

  • Publication number: 20140296249
Abstract: Dopamine D3 receptor antagonists and partial agonists are known to modulate the reinforcing and drug-seeking effects induced by cocaine and other abused substances. By introducing functionality into the butylamide linking chain of the 4-phenylpiperazine class of ligands, improved D3 receptor affinity and selectivity, as well as water solubility, is achieved. A series of linking-chain derivatives are disclosed wherein functionality such as OH, OAc, and cis or trans-cyclopropyl groups have been introduced into the linking chain. In general, these modifications are well tolerated at D3 receptors and achieve high selectivity over D2 and D4 receptors.

  • Publication number: 20140290959
Abstract: A flow stop valve (20) positionable in a downhole tubular (6), and a method, are provided. The flow stop valve (20) is in a closed position when a pressure difference between fluid outside the downhole tubular (6) and inside the downhole tubular (6) at the flow stop valve (20) is below a threshold value, thereby preventing flow through the downhole tubular. The flow stop valve (20) is in an open position when the pressure difference between fluid outside the downhole tubular (6) and inside the downhole tubular (6) at the flow stop valve (20) is above a threshold value, thereby permitting flow through the downhole tubular (6).

  • Publication number: 20140294264
Abstract: Apparatus, methods, and other embodiments associated with objectively predicting biochemical recurrence with co-occurring gland tensors in localized subgraphs are described. One example apparatus includes a set of logics that associate directional disorder with a risk of failure in a material. A first logic detects a fundamental unit of composition in the material, segments boundaries of the fundamental unit, and calculates a directional tensor for the fundamental unit. A second logic constructs a localized sparsified subgraph whose nodes represent centroids of the fundamental units, defines pairwise spatial relationships between the fundamental units, and constructs a directional co-occurrence matrix based on the spatial relationships. A third logic derives second order statistical features from the co-occurrence matrix, and produces a risk failure score as a function of the second order statistical features.

  • Publication number: 20140294532
Abstract: A device comprising a shaft and a fastener. The device requires substantially no tools to apply while generally maintaining the basic shape of a common clevis pin and the robustness of a common cotter pin. The fastener passes through a bore hole in the shaft. A cap positions onto a shaft head, and includes a ridge that engages a slot in the shaft head. The cap and head have low profiles and are non-protuberant, so as to minimize snagging, inadvertent release, and/or damage to contacting objects. A plunger positions inside the shaft, passing through a plunger spring. The plunger spring provides a compressive force that presses against the fastener to hold it in place. Removing the cap reduces the compressive force. The shaft cannot be released by external pressure on the shaft head. A compressive element helps secure the fastener in a shaft cross bore.

  • Publication number: 20140294279
Abstract: Apparatus, methods, and other embodiments associated with objectively predicting biochemical recurrence (BCR) with cell orientation entropy (COrE) are described. One example apparatus includes a set of logics that associate directional disorder with a risk of biochemical recurrence in a tissue. A first logic detects a cell in the tissue, segments boundaries of the cell, and calculates a cell direction for the cell. A second logic constructs a localized sparsified subgraph whose nodes represent centroids of the cells, defines pairwise spatial relationships between the cells, and constructs a directional co-occurrence matrix based on the spatial relationships. A third logic derives second order statistical features from the co-occurrence matrix, and produces a BCR risk score as a function of the second order statistical features. The second order statistical features include the entropy of the directional organization of the cells.
