  • Patent number: 7738039
Abstract: The present invention concerns a method and apparatus for setting a frequency reference in an integrated receiver decoder (IRD). More specifically, the present invention discloses an electrical circuit arrangement in which the voltage controlled crystal oscillator (VCXO) is set to oscillate at the desired frequency prior to the initial use thereof and that frequency is stored in a non-volatile memory unit. Upon initial use, the IRD receives a data signal corresponding to a frequency reference. The IRD uses a threshold value to compare the frequency reference of the incoming data signal with the frequency stored in the non-volatile memory. If the frequencies differ by a predetermined value, the frequency from the incoming data signal is stored in the non-volatile memory and is used to set the VCXO.

  • Patent number: 7023491
Abstract: A method and apparatus for constructing a frozen picture to be displayed on a display device in a video data decoding system; the apparatus and method including the steps of receiving video data to be spatially and temporally reconstructed in the decoding system, first determining whether a descriptor of the video data for indicating types of source material from which the video data has originated is in error, second determining whether the descriptor indicates progressive or non-progressive, displaying a frame picture of the video data to construct a frozen picture when the descriptor is not in error in the first determining step and the descriptor indicates progressive in the second determining step, and displaying one of field pictures of the video data to construct a frozen picture when the descriptor is in error in the first determining step or the descriptor indicates non-progressive in the second determining step.
