  • Patent number: 4121502
Abstract: A transfer tube and seal structure for a hydraulic unit for connecting a pair of flow passages in a housing to flow passages in a valve plate which is floatingly mounted and engageable against a cylinder block in an axial piston hydraulic unit with ports in the valve plate communicating with axially-extending bores in the cylinder block, each of which carries a piston movably mounted therein. A transfer tube is loosely positioned in coaxial flow passages to span the gap between the valve plate and the housing and maintain a sealed flow relation therebetween while permitting movement of the valve plate relative to the housing. The transfer tubes each have an outwardly-opening groove adjacent each end thereof mounting a metallic seal ring and with the outer face of the seal ring being of substantially reduced width for a limited area of sealing contact with the walls of the flow passages.

  • Patent number: 4121479
Abstract: A power transmission usable with a vehicle and having three ranges or speeds of operation in both forward and reverse directions of travel of the vehicle, including a low-speed range, an intermediate-speed work range, and a high-speed range and having a planetary differential with a sun gear drivingly connected to the motor of the hydrostatic transmission, a ring gear drivable either by the power input shaft or the hydrostatic transmission and a third intermediate planetary gear system connected to the output shaft with selectively operable clutches and gear trains related with the other structure of the power transmission for utilization in a drop box configuration and optional connection to multiple hydrostatic transmission pumps and motors.

  • Patent number: 4096786
Abstract: A rotary fluid energy translating device having reduced noise levels and having a rotatable cylinder block with a plurality of cylinders therein and each having a movable piston, valve means having inlet and outlet port means adapted to serially connect with the cylinders and also having a pair of cross-over areas positioned to block a cylinder from simultaneous communication with the inlet and outlet port means and with the pistons within the cylinders adjacent one cross-over area positioned to provide a small fluid volume in the associated cylinders and positioned to provide a large fluid volume in the cylinders adjacent the other cross-over area. Each cross-over area has at least one trapped fluid chamber, with a restricted flow passage positioned to communicate with a cylinder and a piston is positioned in each of the trapped fluid chambers and movable to positions to vary the volume of the chamber.

  • Patent number: 4019404
Abstract: A power transmission having both mechanical and hydraulic power paths to a simple planetary differential unit to provide a double hydro-hydromechanical transmission with a low-speed, high torque, hydrostatic drive range by causing counterrotation of two gear members of the simple planetary, an intermediate speed range hydromechanical drive with inputs to the differential from both power paths and a high-speed, hydrostatic drive range.

  • Patent number: 3970057
Abstract: An internal combustion engine comprises a housing having two cylinders formed therein, a combustion chamber between the two cylinders, and two crankcases. The cylinders are angularly disposed with respect to one another in a V shape with the combustion chamber being located at the apex of the V-shaped configuration. The crankcases are located at the opposite ends of the V-shaped configuration. Pistons are slidably mounted within each of the cylinders for reciprocating movement toward and away from the combustion chambers. The pistons are operatively connected to the crankshafts. One of the cylinders has inlet ports and the other cylinder has exhaust ports and inlet ports therein. During the scavenging portion of the cycle, the exhaust ports and the inlet ports are all opened. The two sets of inlet ports serve to scavenge the previously burned gases from the combustion chamber and also serve to charge the cylinder for the next cycle.
