  • Patent number: 4081370
Abstract: Carbon particulates comprising carbon black spheres and a carbon binder having large pores as well as desirable pore size distributions are disclosed which are useful as selective adsorbants. A method of preparation and various uses are also disclosed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 22, 1977
Date of Patent: March 28, 1978
    Assignee: American Cyanamid Company
Inventors: Joseph Lawrence Schmitt, Jr., Philip Leroy Waker, Jr., George Augustus Castellion
  • Patent number: 4036870
Abstract: In the catalytic reaction of saturated lower aliphatic hydrocarbons, e.g. propane, isobutane, with oxygen and ammonia in gas phase in contact with solid metal oxide catalysts, conversion of the hydrocarbon and selectivity of conversion to .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated nitrile are improved by using a catalyst comprising a fluxing agent, e.g. phosphoric acid to maintain the catalytic metal oxide e.g. molybdenum oxide in a non-crystalline state.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 2, 1971
Date of Patent: July 19, 1977
    Assignee: American Cyanamid Company
Inventors: George Augustus Castellion, William Frank Marzluff
  • Patent number: 4032435
Abstract: A hydrodesulfurization catalyst consisting essentially of a carbon support carrying thereon at least 10 and up to 20 weight percent of a first metal selected from tungsten and molybdenum and from about 2 to 10 weight percent of a second metal selected from cobalt and nickel, said metals being in the form of their sulfides and said catalyst having an average pore radius of at least 25 angstrom units and a compacted bulk density of about 0.3-0.8 gram per cc. provide advantages in the hydrodesulfurization of petroleum residuum.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 22, 1976
Date of Patent: June 28, 1977
    Assignee: American Cyanamid Company
Inventors: Joseph Lawrence Schmitt, Jr., George Augustus Castellion
  • Patent number: 4031137
Abstract: Carbon particulates comprising carbon black spheres and a carbon binder having large pores as well as desirable pore size distribution are disclosed which serve as catalyst supports. The support carrying an effective amount of an activator is an active catalyst composition for a variety of reactions including reduction reactions.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 11, 1976
Date of Patent: June 21, 1977
    Assignee: American Cyanamid Company
Inventors: Joseph Lawrence Schmitt, Jr., Philip Leroy Walker, Jr., George Augustus Castellion

  • Patent number: 3968639
Abstract: Accumulating measuring devices which indicate the flow of electric current on graduated scale. Current flow may be of any fixed rate or value, steady or pulse, and scale may be any desired graduations. Current flow is indicated by a persistent electrochromic display material which changes color due to passage of electric current through it. The entire device is electronic, with no mechanical parts. Other accumulating functions may also be measured with the device if they can be converted first to electric current. One particular application is an elapsed time indicator, e.g. a watch or clock.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 16, 1974
Date of Patent: July 13, 1976
    Assignee: American Cyanamid Company
