    Abstract: A magnetic recording medium comprising a thin film of magnetic material disposed upon a non-magnetic substrate wherein the magnetic material is an alloy of cobalt with a second constituent which may be rhenium, ruthenium or osmium. The magnetic material will have a coercive force of up to 800 Oe and a squareness ratio of up to 98%.
