Patent number: 5456668Abstract: Intravenous catheter apparatus includes a housing surrounding a carrier movable from a first to a second position. An elongated needle, secured at one end to the carrier, extends from the carrier through an opening in the housing so the other end of the needle with a sharp point extends away from the housing when the carrier is in the first position. Means are provided for moving with one hand the carrier from the first to the second position to retract the needle into the housing until the sharp end of the needle clears the opening and moves into the housing. Means deflect the needle laterally when the needle clears the opening so the needle moves out of alignment with the opening to prevent the needle from being moved back into the opening. Preferably, the housing is formed of two elongated, substantially symmetrical halves secured together at one end by a living hinge for ease of manufacture and assembly.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 1994Date of Patent: October 10, 1995Assignee: F. H. Faulding & Co. LimitedInventor: George B. Ogle, II

Patent number: 5065783Abstract: A valve insert includes an elongated cannula with first and second sharp ends. First and second elongated, flexible, elastomeric covers are respectively disposed over the first and second sharp ends of the cannula. Each cover is secured to an intermediate part of the cannula and is made of a material penetrable by the sharp ends of the cannula as the cannula moves longitudinally relative to the covers. The insert is mounted in an elongated bore through a valve body so that when a hypodermic syringe nozzle is inserted inito one end of the bore, the cannula and covers are displaced longitudinally, causing the sharp ends of the cannula to pierce the covers and open the cannula for fluid flow.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 1990Date of Patent: November 19, 1991Assignee: George Braddock Ogle, IIInventor: George B. Patent number: 5060812Abstract: A medication container stopper includes an elastomeric plug which makes a friction fit in an opening of the container. A first cavity in an exterior surface of the plug opens and diverges away from an interior surface of the plug. A second cavity opens qnd diverges away from the exterior surface of the plug. The bottoms of the cavities are spaced apart to define opposite faces of a thin diaphragm formed integrally with the plug. One of the cavities has an elongated groove with a bottom which defines one face of the diaphragm, which is of a thickness that permits the diaphragm to be ruptured by inserting a conventional hypodermic syringe nozzle into the cavity in the exterior surface of the plug.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 1990Date of Patent: October 29, 1991Assignee: International Medication Systems, LimitedInventor: George B. Ogle, II

Patent number: 4979941Abstract: The present invention comprises a device suitable for mixing medicaments which comprises two separate containers. The first container is provided with a reservoir section and a neck section such that the cross section of the neck section is less than the cross section of the reservoir. A stopper is snugly fit within the neck section adjacent to the reservoir and a spike and plunger member is snugly fit within the neck section adjacent the stopper on the side opposite the reservoir. The spike and plunger member has a midportion with a hole therein, and a plunger projecting from the midportion adapted to make contact with the stopper. A spike extends from the midportion in the opposite direction.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 1989Date of Patent: December 25, 1990Assignee: International Medication Systems, LimitedInventor: George B. Patent number: 4900310Abstract: A protective device for enclosing the scarf of a cannula used to draw blood includes an elongated sheath open at one end and having stop means at the other end. A piston is disposed in the sheath to be slidable between an extended position against the stop means and a retracted position away from the stop means. The piston has a bore extending through it in the direction in which the piston slides. Means are provided for securing an elongated, double-ended cannula in the piston bore so the cannula extends longitudinally through the bore with one end of the cannula in the sheath and the other end of the cannula extending outwardly away from the sheath when the piston is in the extended position. Means are provided for sliding the piston away from the stop means to the retracted position to retract the outwardly extending end of the cannula into the sheath.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 1988Date of Patent: February 13, 1990Assignee: International Medication Systems LimitedInventor: George B. Patent number: 4834716Abstract: A protective device for enclosing the scarf of a cannula carried by a boss while permitting access to the said scarf by a port of a Y-site which is located into proximity to an adjoining length of flexible tubing forming part of an intravenous administration set. The protective device has a cylindrical sheath portion surrounding the cannula, the ends of the cylindrical portion having at least one cutout which snugly receives the flexible tubing.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 1987Date of Patent: May 30, 1989Assignee: IMS, LimitedInventor: George B. Patent number: 4813406Abstract: A splint device for the immobilization of a preselected portion of the body, such as a digital member. The splint device preferably comprises a splint means comprising a ring-like base portion adapted to fit snugly around a digit in proximity to its proximal end. Extending from the base portion there are provided a plurality of essentially rigid elongated support members which are spaced apart around the base portion so as to immobilize the contained digit, preferably on more than one of its sides, each of the support members terminating at a free end which is in the vicinity of, or beyond the distal end, of the digit. The ring-like base portion is preferably expandable. The splint device may also comprise restraining means which may be positioned around the support member for retaining the support members adjacent the digital member, and an end cap which may be positioned on the free ends of the support members.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 1986Date of Patent: March 21, 1989Assignee: IMS LimitedInventor: George B. Ogle, II
