  • Patent number: 7069662
Abstract: A power tool includes a leveling device which includes a rotatable member which seeks an equilibrium position which corresponds to a level position. A rotating device includes a member which enables passage of a beam. An electrical circuit which includes an emitting device, a receiving device and an indicating device is electrically coupled such that upon activation, the emitting device emits a beam which passes through the beam passing member. The beam is received by the receiving device which, in turn, activates the indicator device. The indicator is generally a light emitting device which has a varying brightness so that the user may view the indicator from all sides of the power tool.

Date of Patent: July 4, 2006
    Assignee: Black & Decker Inc.
Inventors: George CH Fung, Patrick CK Kwok, Vincent P. Cooper, Leo Driessen, Chan Ka Shing

  • Patent number: 6803683
Abstract: An alignment device (10) for indicating alignment between two component parts, the first component part (12) having an arcuate track (14) with a track following member in the form of a ball bearing (28) to follow the track under the influence of gravity to seek an equilibrium position. The body having a signal input (18) and a signal output port (20) and the second component part comprising an alignment member axially mounted within the body in restraining engagement with the track following member (28) so as to be rotationally displaceable within the body in response to displacement of the member 28, whereby alignment between the alignment member and the input and output ports in response to displacement of the alignment member by the ball bearing, effects operation of an indicator means to provide an indication that such alignment between the alignment member and the alignment ports has been achieved.

  • Patent number: 6694631
Abstract: A level indicator utilizing an alignment device, together with a power tool utilizing such a level indicator to determine when such a tool is held in a horizontal or vertical plane. An alignment device (10) has a first component part (12) with an arcuate track (14) with a track following member in the form of a ball bearing (28) to follow the track under the influence of gravity to seek an equilibrium position.

  • Patent number: 6552904
Abstract: A power tool such as a drill has an activation switch which energizes a motor which, in turn, drives an output. The switch includes a field effect transistor coupled to a heat sink to dissipate heat from the transistor. The heat sink is positioned at a free end of the handle remote from the switch.
