  • Patent number: 5870976
Abstract: A highly efficient boiler made up of a housing containing upper and lower manifolds. Identical tubes connect the manifolds on the right and left sides to form a plurality of superimposed passages which the combustion gases must successively traverse laterally front to back and upwardly back to front.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 21, 1997
Date of Patent: February 16, 1999

  • Patent number: 5050542
Abstract: A highly efficient boiler is made up of a housing containing upper and lower left and right water manifolds. Tubes connect the left manifolds and other tubes the right manifolds. The tubes are bent toward one another to form a plurality of superposed chambers through which combustion gases must successively flow, from front to back in one chamber and from back to front within the next. Baffles may be provided in each chamber to cause the gas to traverse a sinuous path from left to right and right to left within each chamber. Adjustment of the baffles can be effected during operation to keep the combustion gas exit pressure or temperature or flow rate constant notwithstanding changes in the liquid flow rate through the tubes or the rate of combustion of fuel in the lowermost chamber.

Date of Patent: September 24, 1991

  • Patent number: 4612879
Abstract: In a water tube boiler comprising a housing enclosing tubes bent to form vertical chambers successively traversed by rising hot combustion gases, the tubes being connected at the bottom to the interior of the jacket of a jacketed cylindrical combustion chamber, which jacket is supplied with cold water, and at the top to a steam manifold, the manifold and jacketed chamber project beyond the housing with a downcomer outside the housing connecting the top of the jacket and the lowest part of the manifold, thereby permitting the boiler to operate with a shallow level of water in the manifold, speeding up circulation of water and its heating, and permitting substantially dry steam to be discharged from the upper manifold. The chambers may include baffles which are angled so that the hot gas hits them at an angle less than 90.degree. so as to be deflected thereby in the direction of its advance, thereby avoiding hot spots.

  • Patent number: 3997564
Abstract: Disclosed are compounds of the class of 1-alkyl-4-phenyl and 4-(2-thienyl)-6,7-methylenedioxy-2(1H)-quinazolinones and quinazolinthiones, including the 3,4-dihydro derivatives thereof, useful as pharmaceutical agents, e.g. as anti-inflammatory agents. Such compounds, e.g. 1-isopropyl-4-phenyl-6,7-methylenedioxy-2(1H)-quinazolinones and 1-isopropyl-4-phenyl-6,7-methylenedioxy-2(1H)-quinazolinthiones, may be prepared by reacting the corresponding N-alkyl-N-(3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl)urea or thiourea with an aromatic aldehyde, e.g. benzaldehyde, in the presence of an acid at elevated temperatures to obtain the 3,4-dihydro-2(1H)-quinazolinones or 3,4-dihydro-2(1H)-quinazolinthiones which may then be oxidized to the corresponding 3,4-unsaturated compounds.
