  • Patent number: 7380549
Abstract: A solar concentrator includes a mirror 24 having a frame 27 connected with a lever 55, a train 36 supporting the frame 27 and the lever 55, a first control cable 28 connected with the frame 27, and a second control cable 30 connected with the lever 55. A first locomotive 35 moves the train along a curvilinear path to keep the mirror 24 opposite the sun. The first control cable 28 controls pitch of the mirror 24 and the second control cable 30 controls yaw of the mirror 24. When a concentrator includes a plurality of mirrors 24 they are preferably controlled collectively by pulling all of the first control cables 28 with one motor to control pitch and by pulling all of the second control cables 30 with one motor to control yaw. Sunlight focused on the receiver 20 preferably boils water to form steam that is transmitted to a turbine connected to a generator for producing electricity.

  • Patent number: 5787878
Abstract: A steam boiler (14) is situated on a tower (16) at the center of concentric tracks (17), (18), and (19). Poles (21) and (23) have wheels (25) running on the tracks. The poles are kept upright on the tracks with guylines (35) and struts (31) and (33). The poles carry frameworks (24) with mirrors (12) attached to them. As the earth turns, the poles move along the tracks, keeping the mirrors on the opposite side of the boiler from the sun and keeping sunlight focused approximately on the boiler. As the poles move, the frameworks pivot to fine tune the focusing. Each framework pivots about a horizontal axle (26) of the framework and about the vertical axis of one of the poles (21). Hydraulic cylinders (66) and (70) in series circuits (82) and (78) respectively pivot the frameworks collectively. The frameworks are arranged so the power needed to pivot the frameworks is the same on windy days and calm days.

  • Patent number: 4706925
Abstract: A method is disclosed for easing stripping of an ingot from a sectional mold without disassembly of the fastened sections, by partially separating the sections during stripping. An improved mold is provided for accomplishing such partial separation of the sections, preferably by translating part of stripping forces applied longitudinally to the mold into a transverse direction, creating a gap between the longitudinal sections. Various means are shown for coaction with movable stripping lugs to apply a separating force to opposed adjacent mold sections.

  • Patent number: 4263704
Abstract: An adjustable file handle for files is disclosed. The adjustable file handle comprises a first means which engages the sides of the file substantially adjacent its forward end and above the surface of the teeth of the file which will be in contact with a workpiece. Included with the first means is a hand gripping means for applying pressure to the forward end of the file against the workpiece in a downwardly and outwardly direction. A third means is provided which engages the sides of the tine of the file substantially adjacent the end of the tine and also above the bottom surface of the tine so that contact with a workpiece is avoided. Secured to the third means is a handle means for applying pressure to the tine end of the file against the workpiece in a downwardly and outwardly direction.

  • Patent number: 4184479
Abstract: A greenhouse over an agricultural bed or the like comprising a rotating structure. At least one window in said structure lies within a generally parabolic trough surface. The window can both transmit and reflect solar energy. A heat collector is positioned along the parabolic focus of the window. Solar energy is transmitted through the window to provide instantaneous heating of greenhouse and solar energy is stored after it is gathered at the collector for heating the greenhouse when direct solar energy is no longer available.
