Patent number: 11751618Abstract: A facemask includes an air-filtering portion comprising an air-permeable filtering media; a see-through portion in the filtering media; and a layered portion on each opposing side of the see-through portion. The see-through portion is configured so that, in use, a mouth of a wearer is visible therethrough, and is formed from a transparent film covering a void in, and fixed along its periphery to, the filtering media. The film extends across the length of the facemask, including over the void, forming layered portions of film on filtering media on opposing sides of the clear-portion. A method of manufacture includes removing, e.g., kiss-cutting, the air-permeable filtering media away to form the see-through portion, after layering the film onto the filtering media.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 2017Date of Patent: September 12, 2023Assignee: Prestige Ameritech, Ltd.Inventors: Rex D. Reese, George D. Reese, Michael L. Bowen

Publication number: 20160151650Abstract: A facemask includes air-permeable filtering media for positioning over a wearer's nose and mouth, and peripheral portions adapted to fit the facemask to a wearer's face. The peripheral bottom portion includes an elongate elastic member anchored at its ends to the peripheral bottom portion proximate to or coincident with the opposing side portions and having a length in an extended state extending substantially across a width of the ungathered peripheral bottom portion. The elongate elastic member further includes an unattached portion between the anchored ends, which freely extends and relaxes without constraint to gather the peripheral bottom portion for engaging a chin and face of a wearer during use. The gathered peripheral bottom portion provides an air-inhibiting seal between the air-permeable filtering media and a wearer's face.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 30, 2015Publication date: June 2, 2016Inventor: George D. Patent number: 8430100Abstract: A face mask has upper and lower portions made of mask material. The upper and lower portions are joined together at side portions and a front portion. The side portions converge as the side portions extend from a face edge to the front portion. The mask has sections between the face edge and the front portion, with each section having a head retainer, a nose strip or both. The sections are divisible from each other along separation zones or bands that extend between the side edges. The size of the mask can be reduced by removing one or more sections, leaving one or more sections that incorporate the front edge and the shortened side edges.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 2009Date of Patent: April 30, 2013Assignee: Prestige Ameritech Ltd.Inventors: George D. Reese, Michael L. Bowen

Patent number: 7793892Abstract: A holder or organizer has first and second strips releasably fastened together by coupling material such as by hook and loop material. The strips each have two ends, namely a bonding end and a free end. The two bonding ends are coupled together. The first strip has an adhesive on its outside. The second strip has a selvedge area adjacent an edge, which selvedge area lacks releasable coupling material. The selvedge area will not fasten to the first strip. A user can easily grip the selvedge area of the second strip and peel the second strip off of the first strip. A tongue extends in the direction of the bonding ends of the strips and works in conjunction with a non-tongue area of the upper strip to more securely hold an object in the holder.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 2008Date of Patent: September 14, 2010Assignee: Prestige Ameritech Ltd.Inventors: Michael L. Patent number: 6055982Abstract: A disposable face mask that includes a filter body capable of filtering liquids and/or particles of a size appropriate for the mask's intended purposes, while providing excellent breathability and comfort to the wearer for extended periods of time. The filter body is formed from multiple layers of filtration material having various configurations. Such masks may be secured by one or more knitted headbands to the head of a wearer. Various gasket-type sealing materials such as plastic film or other materials such as hydrogel may be used to enhance the fluid barrier formed between the periphery of the mask and the wearer's face. For one embodiment the face mask may include a continuous loop of material to secure the mask on a wearer's face.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1997Date of Patent: May 2, 2000Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc.Inventors: Kevin K. Brunson, Albert R. Rich, Frank D. Rasberry, George D. Reese

Patent number: 5699792Abstract: A face mask is provided that includes a filter body capable of filtering liquids, particles and aerosols of a size appropriate for the mask's intended purposes, while providing excellent breathability and comfort for extended periods of wear. The filter body may be formed from multiple layers of filtration material having a generally rectangular configuration with multiple pleats. The mask may be secured to the head of a wearer by ear loops or surgical tie strips attached to flaps extending from the filter body to form a fluid seal between the periphery of the mask and the wearer's face. For some applications, strips of resilient or stretchable material which further enhance both the fluid seal formed by the mask and comfort for the wearer may be attached along each side of the filter body with surgical tie strips or ear loops attached to the strips of resilient material.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 1996Date of Patent: December 23, 1997Assignee: Tecnol Medical Products, Inc.Inventors: George D. Reese, Albert R. Rich, Jr., Kevin K. Brunson

The filter body may be formed from multiple layers of filtration material having a generally rectangular configuration with a plurality of pleats. The mask may be secured to the head of a wearer by tie strips attached to flaps extending from the filter body to form a fluid seal between the periphery of the mask and the wearer's face. For some applications, the flaps may be formed from resilient or stretchable material which further enhances both the fluid seal formed by the mask and comfort for the wearer. A clear visor may also be attached to the mask to protect the wearer's eyes and portions of the wearer's face not covered by the mask.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 1995Date of Patent: December 9, 1997Assignee: Tecnol Medical Products, Inc.Inventors: George D.
