  • Patent number: 8844241
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for lining one or more surfaces of concrete structures during fabrication thereof. A structure-lining apparatus comprises a plurality of structure-lining panels and a plurality of concrete-anchoring components. The panels, which may extend in longitudinal and transverse directions, are interconnected to one another in edge-to-edge relationship at their transverse edges to line at least a portion of the interior of the structural form. The concrete-anchoring components extend in an inward/outward direction from the panels. The concrete-anchoring components may: be integrally formed with the panels; connect to the panels via suitably configured connector components; and/or connect edge-adjacent panels to one another. The concrete-anchoring components may comprise concrete-anchoring features which may extend in the longitudinal and transverse directions (e.g. in a plane parallel to the panels) to provide concrete-anchoring surfaces.

  • Patent number: 8834778
Abstract: A method of fluid forming a container comprising positioning a plastic preform into a mold cavity, wherein the mold cavity defines a first configuration and a first volume. The method further includes injecting a fluid within the plastic preform at a first fluid pressure urging the plastic preform into an expanded shape. The method includes actuating the mold cavity into a second configuration and a second volume, whereby the second volume is smaller than the first volume, thereby resulting in a second fluid pressure within the plastic preform being greater than the first fluid pressure.

  • Patent number: 8793953
Abstract: A stay-in-place form-work for casting a concrete structure comprises a plurality of elongate panels interconnectable in edge-to-edge relationship via complementary connector components on their longitudinal edges to define at least a portion of a perimeter of the form-work. The panels include a first panel having a first connector component incorporating a receptacle, and a second panel having a second connector component incorporating a protrusion. The first and second panels are connectable to one another in edge-to-edge relationship by: effecting a loose-fit connection by extending the protrusion of the second connector component into the receptacle of the first connector component; loosely seating a clip onto the first and second connector components; and pushing the clip against the first and second connector components to reach a locked configuration wherein restorative deformation forces associated with the clip act to retain the first and second connector components in the locked configuration.

  • Patent number: 8787651
Abstract: Feature analysis on consecutive tissue sections (FACTS) includes obtaining a plurality of consecutive tissue sections from a tissue sample, staining the sections with at least one biomarker, obtaining a digital image thereof, and identifying one or more regions of interest within a middle of the consecutive tissue sections. The digital images of the consecutive tissue sections are registered for alignment and the one or more regions of interest are transferred from the image of the middle section to the images of the adjacent sections. Each image of the consecutive tissue sections is then analyzed and scored as appropriate. Using FACTS methods, pathologist time for annotation is reduced to a single slide. Optionally, multiple middle sections may be annotated for regions of interest and transferred accordingly.

  • Publication number: 20140187492
Abstract: ClotGel is a single-component hemostatic agent designed for use as an adjunct or primary treatment in moderate intraoperative hemorrhage and in trauma. It can be applied topically to the wound either on the skin in a laparatomy or as non-invasive manner in surgical procedures. Its crosslinking technology generates an adhesive stable fibrin clot using a single component (fibrin II) required for hemostasis. The agent is a mixture of lyophilized polymerized fibrin II and fibrin II monomer which is polymerized and stabilized when in contact with the blood. The attachment properties of the gel, as well as the rapid formation of a fibrin clot, ensures that a strong stable fibrin clot is formed within 1 minute of application.

  • Patent number: 8680240
Abstract: ClotFoam is a sealant and hemostatic agent for use in cases of non-compressible hemorrhage for moderate to severe bleeding. It can be applied in the operating room through laparoscopic ports, or directly over lacerated tissue in laparotomy procedures or outside the operating room through a mixing needle and/or a spray injection method following intracavitary severe trauma or surgery. Its crosslinking technology generates an adhesive scaffold that carries a fibrin sealant required for hemostasis. Clotfoam produces a foam that spreads throughout a body cavity reaching the lacerated tissue to seal tissue and promote the coagulation cascade. The composition is biocompatible and non-inflammatory. The invention uses fibrin monomer polymerized by a change of pH as active sealing component. The viscoelastic properties of the foam as well as the rapid formation of a fibrin clot ensure that the sealant remains at the site of application without being washed away by blood.
