Patent number: 10133994Abstract: In a computer implemented method for management of materials on a construction site, a status of a project which uses at least one material is determined by a computer system. A report is generated by the computer system. The report identifies a vehicle, from a vehicle pool, to be utilized to move the material and defines a load of the material which is to be moved by the vehicle, according to a mass haul plan, from a first location to a second location. The vehicle is identified based on results of a simulation. The status of the project is automatically updated by the computer system based on an actual size and an actual drop-off location of the load of the material moved by the vehicle. The computer system updates the report based on the updating of the status of the project.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 2012Date of Patent: November 20, 2018Assignee: Trimble Inc.Inventors: Mark E. Nichols, Bryn Fosburgh, Christopher David Richardson, Peter Graham Gipps, George Derrick Darby, Jr.

Patent number: 9552445Abstract: Automatic change propagation in an area-based open pit mine designer is disclosed. One example includes an economic shell receiver module to receive an economic shell. In addition a user input module receives a user parametric input denoting an open pit mine shape based on the economic shell. An open pit mine designer module automatically develops an open pit mine design from the user parametric input. The user input module receives an additional area to be incorporated into the open pit mine design. The open pit mine designer module automatically propagates the additional area into the open pit mine design to generate a modified open pit mine design.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2013Date of Patent: January 24, 2017Assignee: Trimble Inc.Inventors: George Derrick Darby, Jr., Adrian Ferrier, Juan Carlos Santamaria, Augusto Opdenbosch, Larry Rosenbalm

Patent number: 9043402Abstract: This disclosure concerns novel tools and techniques for distributing status information, including without limitation status information about commercial equipment. In some cases, a status monitoring device can be attached to, incorporated within, or otherwise placed in communication with a piece of commercial equipment. The status monitoring device can monitor the status of the equipment and communicate that status. Some of the discloses tools and techniques employ a social networking infrastructure to convey information (such as status information about a piece of equipment).Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 2011Date of Patent: May 26, 2015Assignee: Trimble Navigation LimitedInventors: Bryn Allen Fosburgh, George Derrick Darby, Omar Soubra, James M. Patent number: 8788496Abstract: In a method of organizing information, a plurality of diverse data items is accessed. The diverse data items are related to a physical location. The diverse data items that are accessed comprise at least a non-visual data item and a visual imagery data item, and include geospatial data associated with the individual accessed data items. The diverse data items are parsed by data type and stored in a data store such that the diverse data items are accessible by one or more of the geospatial data associated with the individual data items. Diverse data items related to the physical location are processed to produce an integrated image displayable via a web viewer. The processing occurs in response to receiving a request regarding the physical location. The integrated image comprises an integration of at least two of the stored diverse data items.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2010Date of Patent: July 22, 2014Assignee: Trimble Navigation LimitedInventors: George Derrick Darby, Jr., Mark Smith, William Quintrell

Publication number: 20130262045Abstract: An open pit mine designer is disclosed. One example includes a metric receiver receives an economic shell metric including ore information and an open pit mine metric. In addition, a user input is provided to receive user modifiable criteria. The open pit mine designer combines the open pit mine metrics, the user modifiable criteria and a waste reduction criteria to develop an open pit mine design, wherein user modifiable information may be used to adjust the open pit mine design during the life of the open pit mine.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 14, 2013Publication date: October 3, 2013Applicant: TRIMBLE NAVIGATION LIMITEDInventors: George Derrick Darby, Jr., Adrian Ferrier, Juan Carlos Santamaria, Augusto Opdenbosch, Larry Rosenbalm

Patent number: 8306836Abstract: A computer implemented method and computer system for management of materials on a construction site. In one embodiment, at least one cost scenario is defined for moving at least one material with a vehicle pool. A status of a project which uses the material is then determined. A report is generated which identifies a vehicle of the vehicle pool and defines a load of the material which is to be moved by the vehicle from a first location to a second location.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 2008Date of Patent: November 6, 2012Assignee: Trimble Navigation LimitedInventors: Mark E. Patent number: 8239125Abstract: In a method for automatically directing traffic on a site, information is received regarding a plurality of selected entities on the job site. An indication of a first priority assigned to a first of the plurality of selected entities is received. An indication of a second priority assigned to a second of the plurality of selected entities is received. It is then determined that the first of the plurality of selected entities has a right of way over the second of the plurality of selected entities based upon a comparison of the first priority and the second priority.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 2011Date of Patent: August 7, 2012Assignee: Trimble Navigation LimitedInventors: Robert William Petrie, Paul Walton, George Derrick Darby, Jr., Juan Carlos Santamaria, Augusto Opdenbosch
