  • Patent number: 5503914
Abstract: A film comprising a blend of copolymers, which has been extruded (i) to a film having a gauge of less than about 1.8 mils; a dart impact strength of at least about 80 grams per mil at a density of 0.926 gram per cubic centimeter; and a dart impact strength of at least about 480 grams per mil at a density of 0.918 gram per cubic centimeter and/or (ii) to a film having a gauge of less than about 5 mils, and a blocking force of less than about 120 grams and a COF in the range of about 0.2 to about 0.5, said blend having been produced in situ by contacting ethylene and at least one alpha-olefin comonomer with a magnesium/titanium based catalyst system in each of two reactors connected in series, under polymerization conditions, wherein the polymer formed in the high molecular weight reactor has a flow index in the range of about 0.01 to about 30 grams per 10 minutes and a density in the range of about 0.860 to about 0.

  • Patent number: 5258161
Abstract: A method for producing film having high tensile impact and dart drop properties by introducing a very low density ethylene alpha olefin copolymer having a melt index of less than 0.1 gm/10 min. a melt flow ratio of about 14-18 and a dispersity greater than 10 into a stalk extrusion apparatus and thereafter forming a film from said resin.

Assignee: Union Carbide Chemicals & Plastics Technology Corporation
    Inventor: George E. Ealer
  • Patent number: 5149484
Abstract: A process for preparing a low haze molded article includes adding a nucleating agent to a polypropylene homopolymer or copolymer to form prenucleated polypropylene having a molecular weight of at least about 20,000 and an isotactic index of at least about 60 percent, and forming a molding composition by mixing the prenucleated polypropylene with linear low density polyethylene having a melt index of at least about 120 grams per 10 minutes, in an amount of about 1 to 5 percent by weight based on the total weight of the polyethylene and the polypropylene. This mixture is then introduced into an injection molding zone where it is molded at a temperature below the melting point of the polypropylene.
