  • Publication number: 20210275942
Abstract: A combination for purifying a liquid, such as used cooking oil, unrefined edible oil, biodiesel fuel, rendered fat, or dielectric fluids comprising a container comprising a holding portion having at least one wall portion and at least one portion that is designed to fail structurally upon heating of the liquid, such as at least one cap portion, which is connected detachably to the holding portion. The combination also comprises at least one purifying material, such as an adsorbent powder, contained in the holding portion of the container. Upon contact of the container with the liquid and heating of the liquid, at least one of the at least one portion(s) that is designed to fail structurally provides at least one opening in the container, whereby the liquid is contacted by the at least one purifying material, and the liquid is purified.

  • Publication number: 20210229066
Abstract: A composition for purifying a liquid, such as used cooking oil, unrefined edible oils, or biodiesel fuel, that comprises at least one purifying material, such as magnesium silicate, and at least one binder material that is a solid or a semi-solid at room temperature, or is water or a glycol. When the composition is placed in a liquid, and the liquid is heated, the solid composition disintegrates and the at least one purifying material is released in the liquid. Such composition minimizes or eliminates contact with the dust associated with solid adsorbent materials, and provides for a controlled release of the at least one purifying material into the liquid to be purified.

  • Patent number: 10808076
Abstract: A method of purifying a crude polyalkylene oxide polymer that contains a catalyst, such as potassium hydroxide. The method comprises contacting the crude polyalkylene oxide polymer with a composition comprising an acid functionalized silicate, such as an acid functionalized magnesium silicate adsorbent containing at least one acid in an amount effective to remove the catalyst from the polyalkylene oxide polymer. Such a method provides for an improved removal of the catalyst from the polyalkylene oxide polymer.

  • Publication number: 20200324227
Abstract: A medium for filtering a fluid, such as cooking oil, unrefined edible oil, biodiesel fuel, and fruit-based and vegetable-based beverages, which comprises a top filter panel and a bottom filter panel. Each of the top filter panel and the bottom filter panel has a planar surface, and the top filter panel is in contact with the bottom filter panel. The top panel has at least one opening in communication with the bottom panel such that the filter medium provides for controlled flow of the fluid through the top filter panel and the bottom filter panel. The top filter panel is designed to provide longer filter life before plugging or fouling of the filter.

  • Publication number: 20200188824
Abstract: A medium for filtering a fluid, such as cooking oil, biodiesel fuel, and fruit-based and vegetable-based beverages, which comprises a filter having a planar surface and at least one projection which projects upwardly from the planar surface. The filter may be impregnated with at least one adsorbent material for removing impurities from the fluid. The at least one projection projects upwardly from the planar surface such that the filter provides for a three-dimensional surface providing additional contact area for the filter. The three-dimensional surface pattern is designed to provide longer filter life before plugging or fouling and allow for controlled flow of the fluid through the filter.

  • Patent number: 10563150
Abstract: A method of purifying a rendered fat by contacting the rendered fat with at least one adsorbent material, such as magnesium silicate. The at least one adsorbent material may be used alone or in combination with other purifying materials, such as an acid. Such method provides for improved removal of impurities, such as polyethylene, phosphorus-containing compounds, chlorophyll, metals, soap, and sterol glucosides from the rendered fat.

  • Patent number: 3937494
Abstract: A bearing system for relatively rotatable liquid conduits such as a rotating sprinkler head mounted on a fixed riser, including a two-piece casing assembly for shielding operative parts of the bearing from intrusion of external dirt and water-borne abrasive material, while permitting leakage liquid within the casing assembly to bleed outwardly, thereby preventing excessive liquid pressure in the assembly. The illustrative system includes a bearing housing having a central vertical bore and a tubular spindle rotatably mounted in the bore and projecting thereabove for attachment to a sprinkler head. The system includes spaced upper and lower seals between the fixed and rotating parts, and an external helical spring for maintaining the seals under compression, thereby minimizing entry of outside dirt and water-borne abrasive material into the annular space between the spindle and bore.
