  • Patent number: 3986396
Abstract: In a first preferred embodiment my wind indicator is formed of a fan rotor attached to a verticalshaft rotatably mounted in a C-shaped frame. Also mounted on the shaft is a pair of pendulums which are pivoted to swing outwardly by centrifugal force as the shaft is rotated. When wind strikes the fan rotor it rotates and the faster the shaft rotates, the further outward the pendulums move. A scale is provided on the C-shaped frame adjacent the path of outward movement of the pendulums from which the wind velocity can be visually determined. In a second embodiment the fan rotor, shaft and pendulums are mounted in a frame of three vertically disposed C-shaped members disposed at 120.degree. spacing. The frame is in turn rotatably mounted in a base. A horizontally disposed direction indicator is mounted on the frame, and carries an octagonal direction dial with numerals on each side. The wind velocity scale and direction dial numbers are of sufficient size to be read from a substantial distance.
