  • Patent number: 10605086
Abstract: A vane assembly includes first and second annular metal rings configured to accept a compressed gas flow therebetween. The first and second annular rings each include a cutout portion. The assembly further includes a ceramic matrix composite vane configured as an airfoil having a blunt rounded nose and a flattened and tapered tail. A first radial end of the vane is rigidly disposed on the first annular ring and a second radial end of the vane is slidably disposed within the cutout portion of the second annular ring such that the vane is encompassed by the first and second annular rings. The vane includes a hollow through opening portion extending radially therethrough. Still further, the assembly includes a metallic elongated member disposed within and extending through the hollow portion of vane and through the cutout portion of the first annular ring.

  • Patent number: 7882696
Abstract: A support and air mixer includes an inner annular member, an outer annular member shaped and positioned such that an annular air gap is formed between the inner annular member and the outer annular member, and a plurality of air mixing members, each air mixing member having a mixing passageway therethrough and each air mixing member having an inner portion connected to the inner annular member, an outer portion connected to the outer annular member, and first and second opposing side portions interconnecting the inner and outer portions and the inner and outer annular members such that the mixing passageway is in fluid communication with the annular air gap.

  • Patent number: 7195452
Abstract: The mounting of low expansion full ring shrouds in a turbine engine requires radial compliance to limit the stresses experienced by the shroud due to thermal growth differences between the shroud and its support. A method provides radial compliance with no looseness in a mounting system. The mounting system also allows for axial motion of the shroud, should such motion be needed or desired. The lack of looseness in the mounting system results in an ability to achieve smaller tip clearances and thus better engine performance.

  • Patent number: 7094024
Abstract: An integral assembly that may improve control over thermal and mechanical behaviors of assembly structures during various transient operation conditions is disclosed. The integral assembly comprises a continuous ring disposed coaxial with, and orthogonal to a central axis, the continuous ring comprising a plurality of surfaces, the plurality of surfaces having a continuous outer surface and a continuous inner surface; the plurality of surfaces being characterized by a continuous cross section having a first cross sectional dimension longitudinally disposed parallel to the central axis; the plurality of surfaces comprising a bell mouth surface in physical communication with a compressor shroud surface; the compressor shroud surface being in physical communication with a diffuser surface; and the diffuser surface being in physical communication with the bell mouth surface. The integral assembly comprising a compressor shroud is also provided.

  • Patent number: 6942445
Abstract: A cooled shroud assembly includes an angled slot and a plurality of dilution jet openings. The shroud forward cavity is modified such that at least one recirculation zone is produced. The angled slot forces an axial change in momentum of the hot gas flow and increases radial and axial pressure variation attenuation. The cooled shroud assembly isolates the shroud structure and seals from the hot flow path and a cooling flow from the dilution jet openings dilutes the hot gas flow. A series of recirculation zones shields the shroud carrier and high pressure seals from the hot gas flow.
