Abstract: The safety crossing gate for a railway crossing of the present invention includes a secondary gate rotatably mounted or mountable to a primary crossing gate. The secondary gate is a rigid elongated member having first and second opposite ends. The second end of the secondary gate is rotatably mounted or mountable to a free end of the primary crossing gate by a rotatable coupling mounted or mountable to the second end of secondary gate and the free end of the primary crossing gate so as to allow selectively actuable rotation of the first end of the secondary gate relative to the primary crossing gate in a generally vertical plane containing the primary crossing gate when the secondary gate is rotatably mounted to the primary crossing gate by the rotatable coupling.
