  • Patent number: 5751747
Abstract: A linear swept frequency generator includes a signal generator that generates an output signal having a frequency that varies between a first frequency and a second frequency. A delay element, such as an optical fiber having a reflector at one end, is configured to receive the output signal and to produce a delayed version of the output signal. This delayed version of the output signal is provided, along with the output signal, to a mixer that combines the signals to produce a reference signal. Finally, a feedback path between the mixer and the signal generator provides the reference signal to the signal generator so that the signal generator controls the frequency of the output signal in response to the reference signal.

  • Patent number: 5031234
Abstract: A reference frequency distribution system for transmitting a reference frequency from a reference unit to a remote unit while keeping the reference frequency at the reference unit and remote unit in phase. A fiber optic cable connects the reference unit to the remote unit. A frequency source at the reference unit produces a reference frequency having an adjustable phase. A fiber optic transmitter at the reference unit modulates a light beam with the reference frequency and transmits the light beam into the fiber optic cable. A 50/50 reflector at the remote unit reflects a first portion of the light beam from the reference unit back into the fiber optic cable to the reference unit. A first fiber optic receiver disposed at the remote unit receives a second portion of the light beam and demodulates the reference frequency therefrom to be used at the remote unit.

  • Patent number: 4893890
Abstract: A low-loss, high-isolation, fiber-optic isolator for use in single-mode fiber systems utilizes a Faraday rotator and two polarizers, one at each end angularly oriented from each other at the angle of rotation for isolation, and two aspheric lens connectors to couple optical fibers to the Faraday isolator to reduce forward loss to about 2.6 dB and improve isolation to greater than 70 db.
