  • Patent number: 8068670
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for performing image analysis. A computer-implemented method for analyzing images may include quantitatively analyzing image data to identify image objects relative to a background portion of the image according to predefined object criteria, the image data including a plurality of image objects that represent objects in a sample distributed across a substrate. The identified image objects are further clustered into groups or colonies of the identified image objects according to predetermined clustering criteria.

  • Publication number: 20040191897
Abstract: A minimally invasive apparatus and method for harvesting bone marrow cells, blood, and bone fragments includes a rigid cannula having a proximal end and a distal end with an opening. The distal end includes a cutting tip that is movable axially and radially to cut and disrupt bone tissue while preserving necessary viability among harvested marrow cells. The cannula further includes an inner surface defining an internal passage that extends from the opening toward the proximal end. Suction is applied to the passage to draw disrupted bone marrow cells, blood, and bone fragments into the internal passage for collection. The apparatus may include a rotatable shaft disposed co-axially within the internal passage. The shaft has a distal end with a cutting bit for further cutting and disrupting of bone tissue.

  • Patent number: 6723131
Abstract: A composite bone marrow graft material is provided having an enriched population of uniformly distributed progenitor cells. The graft material includes clot material preferably derived from non-anticoagulated bone marrow aspirate, which significantly improves the efficacy of the graft. A method for preparing such bone graft material is also provided. A kit is also provided containing sterilized implements useful in preparing enriched composite bone marrow graft material.

  • Patent number: 5626579
Abstract: A surgically implantable cable apparatus has a means for securing (32) a first bone segment (12) and a second bone segment (13). A flexible cable (17) is attached at one end relative to one bone segment (25). A flexible non-compressible sheath (15) has a bore (16) for slidably receiving the cable (17). The non-compressible sheath (15) is secured to the securing means (32) at point (40) and transmits a counter-compression force to the bone segment (25). An implantable actuator (36) is connected to the second end (19) of the flexible cable (17) and to the second end of the sheath (15). The implantable actuator (36) is fully implantable subcutaneously. The implantable actuator (36) is responsive to a transcutaneous energy signal and pulls the flexible cable (17) through the sheath (15) in an axial direction. The cable movement is applied to the bone segment (25), either directly or transmitted through an internal fixation device and the bone segment (25) moves a predetermined distance.

  • Patent number: 5429638
Abstract: A traction cable device is disclosed for bone lengthening and for bone segment transport. The apparatus features a flexible cable contained within a flexible sheath. Bone transport continues after osteotomy and until the bone segment contacts the proximal femur. The in vivo force exerted by the cable can be measured as well as translation of the cable relative to its sheath.
