  • Publication number: 20090151856
Abstract: This invention relates to a tire with a rubber sidewall having at least one layered rubber composite integral with a portion of its outer surface as a means of visibly identifying the tire. The layered composite is an integral composite in a sense of being comprised of a base rubber layer and a contrastingly colored marking rubber layer being partially pre-cured together prior to application to the outer surface of an uncured rubber sidewall. The integrally layered composite and tire rubber sidewall are integral in a sense of being co-cured together with the surface of the base rubber layer facing the rubber sidewall surface. The base rubber layer is a black colored carbon black reinforced rubber layer. The marking rubber layer is of color which contrasts with the black color of the base rubber layer.

  • Patent number: 7073550
Abstract: This invention relates to a pneumatic tire having a built-in non-black colored sealant layer and its preparation. The sealant layer is derived from a sealant precursor layer comprised of a butyl rubber, organoperoxide, particulate, synthetic amorphous silica and plant-derived organic agricultural seed flour, together with a non-black colored colorant. The butyl rubber-based sealant precursor layer is build into the tire to form a tire assembly and the butyl rubber component of the sealant precursor layer is depolymerized during a subsequent curing of the tire at an elevated temperature in a suitable mold to form the tire having the resultant built-in sealant. The particulate plant derived organic agricultural seed flour is a renewable raw material in a sense that it can be replenished in nature and therefore not as a significant depletion of non-renewable natural resource. The agricultural plant seed flour is comprised of at least a portion of a ground plant seed (e.g.

  • Publication number: 20050266707
Abstract: A universal ground strap assembly including a strap having a series of uniformly sized and spaced apertures to facilitate the installation of the ground strap assembly onto a wide range of structures of various shaped and sized cross-sections is provided. A stud, through which the strap is secured, includes a terminal portion adapted to accommodate and have secured therein a ground wire. The stud includes a curved surface to engage the elongated strap with smooth transition. The stud may be captivated on the strap by at least one projection extending into the hole in the strap within which the stud is held. A curved sliding nut supported upon the strap and a curved surface of the stud are used to form a tight clamping action of the strap about the structure to be grounded, without subjecting the strap to localized stresses or tearing, but permitting the strap to tightly encircle the structure. The curved sliding nut is also captivated on the strap with stops and defines a hole to receive the stud.

  • Patent number: 6962181
Abstract: This invention relates to a pneumatic tire having a built-in sealant layer and its preparation. The sealant layer precursor is a layer of a butyl rubber based composition which contains an organoperoxide. The butyl rubber of said precursor is a copolymer of isobutylene and isoprene containing from about 0.5 to about 5, alternately less than 1, mole percent isoprene. The precursor composition contains carbon black and/or coal dust and may contain a dispersion of liquid conjugated diene polymer (e.g. liquid cis 1,4-polyisoprene polymer), short fibers and/or hollow glass microspheres. A layer of the sealant precursor is built into the tire between a sulfur vulcanized halobutyl rubber innerliner and conjugated diene-based rubber of the tire carcass. The butyl rubber of the sealant precursor is partially depolymerized by the organoperoxide during the elevated temperature vulcanization of the tire to form the built-in sealant layer.
