Patent number: 12209112Abstract: In certain embodiments, provided herein are compositions, kits, methods and uses that are useful for preventing or treating a subject suffering from one or more diseases, conditions or disorders associated with chemotherapy such as anthracycline treatment. In some embodiments, provided is a method of treating or preventing a disease, condition or disorder resulting from or exacerbated by chemotherapy treatment in a subject, comprising the step of: administering an effective amount of GDF15 to the subject prior to the chemotherapy. Other example embodiments are described herein. In certain embodiments, the provided novel compositions, kits, methods and uses are highly effective in reducing cardiac cytotoxicity, cheaper, and safer for use.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 2022Date of Patent: January 28, 2025Assignee: THE CHINESE UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONGInventors: Erik Yee Mun George Fung, Ellen Ngar-Yun Poon, Hangqi Luo

Patent number: 11944536Abstract: A tricuspid valve apparatus may include a frame and an associated neo-prosthetic valve. The frame acts as a stabilizing structure that extends cephalad into the morphologic or functional right atrium (upstream) and caudally into the morphologic or functional right ventricle (downstream). The frame comprises a strutted atrial dome that conforms to the atrium without obstruction of blood flow from the incoming great veins (i.e. superior vena cava and inferior vena cava) or other anomalous veins and/or tributaries. The frame further comprises ventricular struts to be placed within the right ventricle to secure the neo-prosthetic valve in a desired position. The assembly of the frame and valve is collapsible so that prior to deployment the assembly is placed in a vascular catheter, and then self-expands upon release in the heart.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 2020Date of Patent: April 2, 2024Assignee: The Chinese University of Hong KongInventors: Erik Yee Mun George Fung, Tze Chuen Ng, Philip Wai Yan Chiu

Patent number: 10125501Abstract: The present invention relates to a polymeric cove base support for installation where flooring meets a wall, comprising extruded straight portions and molded exterior corner and end portions. The cove base support comprises an upper wall portion, a lower toe portion and an intermediate curved or concave cove. The wall portion is substantially perpendicular to the toe portion. The curved cove comprises an outer cove surface for facing the wall-floor interface and a spaced apart inner curved cove surface facing the room when installed. The spacing between the two curved coves for the straight portion creates an open area, where the open area includes a supporting or reinforcing bar juxtaposed between the curves, preferably positioned perpendicular between the two curve coves in the center region of the open area, and extending the length of the cove base.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 2015Date of Patent: November 13, 2018Assignee: Fusion Terrazzo Systems IncorporatedInventors: Fred Rossi, Justin Westfahl, Marcio Campos, James Leitch, George Fung

Patent number: 8820430Abstract: A power tool is described which has several modes of operation, such as drilling and screw driving modes. A clutch is provided with various settings for adjusting the torque at which the clutch interrupts power to a spindle. Furthermore, a two speed gearbox is provided for adjusting the speed of the spindle. All of these variables are controllable from a single adjustment member or collar thereby reducing necessary decisions needed to be made by an operator for a particular job in hand. For instance, when an operator wants the tool to operate in a screw driving mode, the gearbox is automatically set to drive the spindle at a low speed with the clutch being operable to interrupt drive when a torque force applied to the spindle exceeds a threshold value.Type: GrantFiled: July 5, 2012Date of Patent: September 2, 2014Assignee: Black & Decker Inc.Inventors: Andrew Walker, George Fung

Patent number: 8235137Abstract: A power tool (10) is described which has several modes of operation, such as drilling and screw driving modes. A clutch is provided with various settings for adjusting the torque at which the clutch interrupts power to a spindle (18). Furthermore, a two speed gearbox (16) is provided for adjusting the speed of the spindle. All of these variables are controllable from a single adjustment member or collar (26) thereby reducing necessary decisions needed to be made by an operator for a particular job in hand. For instance, when an operator wants the tool to operate in a screw driving mode, the gearbox is automatically set to drive the spindle at a low speed with the clutch being operable to interrupt drive when a torque force applied to the spindle exceeds a threshold value. Furthermore, if the tool is required to operate in a drilling mode, the gearbox is automatically switched to drive the spindle at a higher speed and the clutch is automatically rendered inoperable.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 2007Date of Patent: August 7, 2012Assignee: Black & Decker Inc.Inventors: Andrew Walker, George Fung
