  • Patent number: 4253970
Abstract: Powdered coals are rapidly flocculated from aqueous suspensions by the simple addition of water-soluble starch xanthate, thereby producing a readily recoverable sediment phase and a substantially clear aqueous phase.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 1, 1979
Date of Patent: March 3, 1981
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of Agriculture
    Inventor: George G. Maher
  • Patent number: 4005040
Abstract: Starch graft copolymers are prepared in aqueous media by reacting soluble sodium starch xanthate with a polymerizable vinyl monomer and hydrogen peroxide. Foamed rubbers reinforced with starch graft copolymers are prepared, without the need for mechanical frothing, by conducting the starch graft polymerization reaction in the latex emulsion. Nonfoamed rubber compositions are prepared in a similar manner.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 10, 1975
Date of Patent: January 25, 1977
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of Agriculture
