Abstract: An example method of automatically deploying a containerized workload on a hypervisor based device is provided. The method generally includes booting the device running a hypervisor, in response to booting the device: automatically obtaining, by the device, one or more intended state configuration files from a server external to the device, the one or more intended state configuration files defining a control plane configuration for providing services for at least deploying and managing the containerized workload and workload configuration parameters for the containerized workload; deploying a control plane pod configured according to the control plane configuration; deploying one or more worker nodes based on the control plane configuration, and deploying one or more workloads identified by the workload configuration parameters on the one or more worker nodes.

Abstract: An example method of configuring a cluster network for an application management system having virtual machines (VMs) executing on a virtualization layer in a cluster of hosts connected to a physical network, wherein the application management system is integrated with the virtualization layer, the method including: deploying, by a virtualization management server, a master server of the application management system prior to configuration of a cluster network that connects the VMs, the master server connected to the virtualization management server by a management network isolated from the cluster network; configuring, by the master server in cooperation with a network manager, the cluster network to connect the VMs; and connecting, by the master server in cooperation with the network manager, the cluster network to an edge node configured to support external ingress/egress for the cluster network.

Abstract: Systems, apparatus, articles of manufacture, and methods are disclosed to manage a deployment of virtual machines in a cluster by, in a first host of a plurality of hosts, monitor, with first control plane services, an availability of second control plane services at a second host of the plurality of hosts, wherein the first control plane services and the second control plane services support implementation of application programming interface (API) requests in association with managing a cluster, after a determination that the second control plane services at the second host is not available, assign the first control plane services at the first host to operate in place of the second control plane services at the second host, and in the first host, assign, via the first control plane services at the first host, resources of one or more hosts in the cluster to support the API request.

Abstract: An example virtualized computing system includes: a host cluster having hosts and a virtualization layer executing on hardware platforms of the hosts, the virtualization layer supporting execution of virtual machines (VMs); an orchestration control plane integrated with the virtualization layer, the orchestration control plane including a master server executing in a first VM of the VMs; guest cluster infrastructure software (GCIS) executing in the master server, the GCIS configured to create a set of objects defining a container orchestration cluster, and manage lifecycles of second VMs of the VMs based on state of the set of objects; and guest software executing in the second VMs to implement the container orchestration cluster as a guest cluster of the host cluster, the guest software having components that interface with the GCIS.

The method includes: receiving, at a first master server, a request to assign network ports of the cluster network to control VMs of the VMs, the control VMs executing master servers of the application management system and having first network interfaces connected to a management network isolated from the cluster network; provisioning, by cooperation of the first master server with a network manager, the network ports of the cluster network; and reconfiguring, by cooperation of the first master server with a virtualization management server, the control VMs with second network interfaces connected to the network ports of the cluster network.
