  • Patent number: 7739847
Abstract: An improved siding panel has a fastening hem that includes an engagement member structured to extend outwardly from a building when the siding panel is mounted to the building. The engagement member is generally trapezoid-shaped in cross section and includes a first leg, a second leg, and an apex portion disposed therebetween, with spaced elongated openings being formed in the apex portion. The siding panel is cooperable with a fastener having an elongated shank and a head to mount the siding panel to the building. The siding panel is mounted to the building by receiving the shank through one of the openings. During certain wind loading, the apex portion is engageable with the head, which thereby deflects the first and second legs from a relaxed position to a deflected position where the edges of the opening can engage the shank of the fastener to provide a greater resistance to wind loading.

  • Publication number: 20050241265
Abstract: An improved shim for use in a siding application includes an elongated sheet of shim stock having a number of elongated indicators thereon to enable the sheet of shim stock to be cut into any of a variety of predetermined sizes for use with a variety of different accessories. In an exemplary depicted embodiment, the sheet of shim stock also includes an elongated V-groove disposed generally centrally thereon. The V-groove enables the sheet of shim stock to be deflected between a substantially planar configuration and an angled configuration. The indicators provide detectable guides along which the sheet of shim stock can be disunited to remove desired excess portions of the sheet of shim stock in order to provide a resultant shim having a transverse size that is suited for use in conjunction with a particularly accessory.

  • Patent number: 6715250
Abstract: A plastic panel for attachment to an exterior wall of a building includes a body, an attachment hem attached to the body and defining at least one aperture for a fastener, and a side flange extending laterally outwardly of the body. The side flange defines a fastening slot for attaching the panel to a building wall. The fastening slot extends at a predetermined acute angle relative to horizontal, preferably about 10-20° relative to horizontal, and about 15° in a particularly preferred embodiment. The fastening slot is preferably elongated and narrow so that the head of a metal fastener extends over opposed upper and lower edges of the slot.

  • Patent number: 6421975
Abstract: A molded plastic panel for covering an exterior building wall includes a laterally directed lead fin, a laterally extending groove below the lead fin, and a rearwardly directed middle wall between rows of simulated shingles, all for joining laterally adjacent panels. A side flange extending outwardly of the panel may also be included. The molded plastic panel preferably also includes at least one row of simulated shingles separated by a plurality of gaps each having a randomly varying width in order to camouflage spacings between adjacent panels that change because of thermal contraction and expansion. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the panel body includes a locking tab and a folding flange. The folding flange includes a locking lip for engaging a locking tab on an adjacent panel and a flexible hinge connecting the locking lip to the panel body. The flexible hinge allows the folding flange to be disconnected from the locking tab when replacing a single panel.

  • Patent number: 4446654
Abstract: An improved counterbalance lock mechanism for a window assembly which includes a manually turned lock pin fitted within a stationary housing member located in the window jamb. The lock pin may be rotated into a first position subjecting a slide block to the influence of the mechanism and a second position which isolates the slide block from the counterbalancing effect.
