  • Patent number: 4602045
Abstract: Process of radiation graft polymerizing a fluorinated unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer to a fluoropolymeric permselective membrane in order to improve its performance when used in an electrolysis cell.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 9, 1985
Date of Patent: July 22, 1986
    Assignee: ICI Australia Limited
Inventors: Michael V. Markus, George H. Barnett
  • Patent number: 4506035
Abstract: An hydrophilic microporous diaphragm comprising a fluorine-containing substrate to which has been radiation co-grafted a mixture of monomers comprising at least one functional monomer of formula I, CF.sub.2 .dbd.CF(CF.sub.2).sub.n A, formula II, CF.sub.2 .dbd.CF--O--(CFX--CFX).sub.m A, a dicarboxylic acid containing the group of formula III, --R.sup.3 (COOH)--R.sup.4 (COOH)--, and at least one non-functional monomer of formula IV, CY.sub.2 .dbd.CYZ, or formula V ##STR1## wherein the molar ratio of co-grafted functional monomer to non-functional monomer is in the range of 2:1 to 1:20. These diaphragms have enhanced wettability for improved performance in chlor-alkali cells.
    Type: Grant

    Assignee: ICI Australia Limited
Inventors: Michael V. Markus, George H. Barnett
  • Patent number: 4226672
Abstract: A process of separating fibres from asbestos-bearing material which process comprises the steps by treating said asbestos-bearing material with a chemical agent capable of reacting with, or adsorbing on, asbestos fibres to form a dispersion, and agglomerating said dispersion. The process gives high yields of novel fibres characterized in that the said fibres provide reinforcement in cementitious compositions.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 27, 1978
Date of Patent: October 7, 1980
    Assignee: ICI Australia Limited
Inventors: Victor J. Absolon, George T. Hurst, John C. Worboys, George H. Barnett, Ross P. Dickson
  • Patent number: 4190456
Abstract: Cementitious compositions containing novel asbestos fibres characterized in that the said asbestos fibres are prepared from asbestos-bearing material by a process comprising treating said asbestos-bearing material with a surfactant to form a dispersion and agglomerating said dispersion.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 27, 1978
Date of Patent: February 26, 1980
    Assignee: ICI Australia Limited
Inventors: Victor J. Absolon, George T. Hurst, John C. Worboys, George H. Barnett, Ross P. Dickson
  • Patent number: 4134780
Abstract: A process for making an explosive composition which process comprises heating a mixture comprising at least one oxygen releasing salt and at least one compound selected from a class of melt soluble fuel materials so as to form a melt, and adding to the melt an amount of oxygen releasing salt material whereby there is formed an explosive composition which is pourable, pumpable or flowable over a wide range of temperature. Explosive compositions are described also.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 31, 1977
Date of Patent: January 16, 1979
    Assignee: ICI Australia Limited
