  • Patent number: 6762610
Abstract: The electrical resistance aging properties of a coating intended for use on a base material in a primary alkaline cell battery are be tested by manufacturing at least one test device, measuring a first and a second electrical resistance across two distinct circuits in the device, and calculating the effective electrical resistance at the interface between a cathode mix and a coated surface of the base material as the difference between the two electrical resistances. By storing the test device at temperatures above ambient, the aging properties of the coated surface resistance are estimated by repeating the electrical resistance measurements at predetermined time intervals at ambient temperature.

  • Patent number: 4876513
Abstract: A dynamic state-of-charge indicator for a storage battery characterized by a discharge curve relating available energy of the battery to a contemporaneous voltage over a range of voltage boundaries having predetermined end points corresponding to fully charged and effectively discharged for one charge cycle. The indicator includes a microprocessor for storing predetermined relationships between the contemporaneous voltage and the state-of-charge of the battery. A voltage sensor and a current sensor are connected to monitor battery voltage and current flow, respectively, and to provide corresponding voltage and current signals to the microprocessor. The microprocessor periodically computes the internal resistance of the battery, the average voltage and current for a predetermined discharge time period and a corrected voltage as a total of internal resistance voltage loss and average voltage with the state-of-charge being determined as a function of the corrected battery voltage.

  • Patent number: 4710280
Abstract: The metal fouling which is deposited in the bores and other interior parts of firearms as a result of firing is selectively removed by an electrochemical process which is innocuous to the ferrous base metal of the firearm. A low voltage d-c potential is applied between the ferrous base metal of the firearm to be cleaned, which is maintained as the positive electrode with respect to an auxiliary electrode which is, for example, inserted into the bore and electrically insulated therefrom. An electrolyte occupying the space between the interior of the bore and the auxiliary electrode is selected to be non-oxidizing to the ferrous base metal and capable of solubilizing the electrochemically oxidized metal fouling to be removed. Metal fouling or deposits are completely removed without affecting the ferrous base metal of the bore.
