  • Publication number: 20200346256
Abstract: A cleaning method is provided during which a cover assembly is removed from a pressure pot of a material spray system. The cover assembly is mated with a wash tank, where the cover assembly closes an opening into the wash tank. Cleaning solution is directed into a cavity of the wash tank and against the cover assembly to remove material residue from the cover assembly.

  • Patent number: 9943932
Abstract: The present application discloses a method for repairing a damaged counterbore in a variable vane shroud. A layer of base material is removed from the vane shroud adjacent the counterbore such that a damaged portion of the counterbore is removed. A shrink-fit insert having a size slightly larger than that corresponding to the layer of base material removed from the shroud is placed into the area of removed material such that the counterbore is restored to pre-damaged dimensions upon installation of the shrink-fit insert.

  • Patent number: 9643286
Abstract: The inventive method involves the inspection of a turbine engine. A damaged component of the turbine engine is identified. Portions of the turbine engine component are removed from the damaged area to accommodate an overlay. The overlay is sized smaller than the turbine engine component. The overlay is then placed in a location previously occupied by the removed portion and attached to the turbine engine component.

  • Patent number: 9550198
Abstract: An apparatus for masking an article with masking material is disclosed. The apparatus generally includes a spray head connected to a primary channel which forms a passage for the masking material. This channel has two sections, the first of which terminates in a junction with the spray head and is angled from the second section. In addition, the apparatus has at least one secondary channel which forms an air passage and is attached to the primary angled channel.

  • Patent number: 9404374
Abstract: A vane shroud for a gas turbine engine has a cylindrical shaped body and a hole arranged at a circumference of the body. The hole is for receiving a trunnion from a variable vane. A counterbore is arranged concentrically around the hole on a radially inward facing surface of the body, and receives a trunnion hub from the variable vane. A shrink-fit insert is seated into the counterbore such that the trunnion hub is provided with a contact surface, and the shrink-fit insert is secured to the shroud through an interference fit.

  • Patent number: 8840960
Abstract: A method of cleaning a carbon work piece includes the step of applying an acetone cleaning agent to the carbon work piece to remove debris therefrom. The removal of debris promotes adhesion between the carbon work piece and a subsequently applied coating. For example, other steps may precede the acetone cleaning step, such as submersing the carbon work piece in deionized water. In one example, a subsequent coating process deposits an alumina coating on the carbon work piece.

  • Patent number: 8763403
Abstract: A method is provided for use with an annular gas turbine engine component that includes a main body and an annular seal engaged to the main body with an interference fit. The method includes rotating the annular gas turbine engine component, directing thermal energy from a heat source at the annular seal to thermally expand the annular seal relative to the main body while the annular gas turbine engine component rotates, removing the heated annular seal from the main body, providing a newly manufactured replacement detail having substantially the same configuration as the main body, and engaging the removed annular seal to the replacement detail with an interference fit.

  • Publication number: 20130186920
Abstract: The flow of granulated materials from a supply hopper to a transport tube is controlled. A material feed friction tube is positioned to receive material from the hopper. The friction tube receives material independent from hopper pressure and the material moves to an orifice. The orifice discharges material to a pickup tube from the orifice and includes a transfer tube for receiving material from the pickup tube. The pickup tube has a source of carrier gas sufficient to move the material into the transfer tube for further use.
