Abstract: A multi-band radio having seamless satellite communication capability is provided. The radio includes: a user interface for controlling operations of the radio; an encryption module; a LOS wireless transceiver for transmitting encrypted data at a frequency in the radio frequency spectrum; a BLOS wireless transceiver for transmitting encrypted data at a frequency in the microwave frequency spectrum; and a router for routing the encrypted data to at least one of the LOS transceiver and the BLOS transceiver.

Abstract: An improved carrying device for briefcases and similar items is disclosed. The invention may be used to carry a briefcase on the back of the user. A tapered support portion, consisting of heavily woven nylon, is attached to a horizontal securing strap and two shoulder straps. The securing strap is adjustable and is wrapped around the briefcase. The shoulder straps fit over the shoulders of the user. The shoulder straps support the underside of the briefcase, and the support portion holds the back surface thereof. The securing strap restricts lateral shifting of the briefcase while walking. The briefcase may be carried vertically or horizontally relative to the user's body.

Abstract: A cellular mobile telephone system and method in which channel assignment and telephone call routing are controlled by a central control station and in which each communications channel is separately controlled at a cell station by a radio interface module ("RIM") associated therewith. Flexibility and security from operational interruptions is provided by dynamic assignment of identical RIMs to monitoring, paging, control and communication functions at the cell station. The system is modular and may be customized to accommodate geographic and demographic considerations, while permitting expansion and modification without obsolescence. The system also includes novel, self-diagnostic testing loops and methods. A novel mobile telephone is also disclosed.
