Patents by Inventor George J. McHugh

George J. McHugh has filed for patents to protect the following inventions. This listing includes patent applications that are pending as well as patents that have already been granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

  • Patent number: 4993453
Abstract: A valve and an arrangement for testing and draining a fire suppression water sprinkler system includes a valve which has a thinly walled valve member for allowing fluid flow from an inlet to an outlet of the valve. The thinly walled nature of the valve member provides for economical fabrication of the valve. The selective rotation of the valve member interrupts a flow of water through the valve and permits a flow at two different preselected flow rates. The first preselected flow rate permits a drainage of the sprinkler system and the second preselected flow rate permits a testing of the sprinkler system.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 8, 1989
Date of Patent: February 19, 1991
    Assignee: AGF Manufacturing, Inc.
    Inventor: George J. McHugh
  • Patent number: 4991655
Abstract: An alarm valve and a backflow preventer are provided by a check valve and an alarm valve with a passageway provided between the check valve and the alarm valve preferably having a relief valve which selectively drains the passageway in response to the pressure in the main conduit upstream of the check valve. An alarm is sounded when the alarm valve is open. An impeller flow sensor may be provided in the backflow prevention device.

Date of Patent: February 12, 1991
Assignee: Back-Flo Alarm Valve Co., Inc.
    Inventor: George J. McHugh
  • Patent number: 4971109
Abstract: A valve and an arrangement for testing and draining a fire suppression water sprinkler system includes a valve which has a valve member with first, second and third ports. The selective rotation of the valve member interrupts a flow of water through the valve and permits a flow at one or two preselected flow rates. The valve is provided with a pressure relief valve with an outlet of the pressure relief valve preferably communicating with the outlet of the valve.

  • Patent number: 4957123
Abstract: An apparatus for use in delivering fluid under pressure to a drain of a given diameter includes a bladder having an inlet end, an outlet end and an expandable wall having an outer diameter which is smaller than the given diameter of the drain when the bladder is unexpanded. The apparatus includes an orifice at the outlet end of the bladder and may be connected at its inlet to a fluid supply source which supplies fluid under pressure to the bladder. The diameter of the orifice is sized relative to the diameter of the inlet to cause a pressure build-up in the bladder sufficient to cause the expansion of the bladder when fluid is supplied to the bladder, and an inner member is provided for directing fluid flow radially outwardly within the bladder toward the expandable wall to facilitate the expansion of the bladder. The apparatus may alternatively be provided with valve means for covering the orifice when the wall is unexpanded and for uncovering the orifice as the wall is expanded.

  • Patent number: 4852610

The selective rotation of the valve member interrupts a flow of water through the valve and permits a flow at two different preselected flow rates. The valve may be constructed so as to permit its use in either of two orientations with respect to inlet and outlet openings of the apparatus. A sight glass arrangement may be provided in which two sight glasses are offset from one another by 90 degrees and are arranged in the arrangement in a manner permitting the easy visual observation of flow therepast.
