Abstract: A method and system for tracking electronic information includes the steps of: encrypting an electronic file stored on a hardware storage device; attaching or incorporating with the file a standalone executable program that implements a request for a decryption key accompanied by tracking information when an attempt is made to access the file; verifying the tracking information by a central processing unit; if the tracking information is verified as acceptable, providing the decryption key; and if the tracking information is not verified as acceptable, modifying the file to include a record of the failed attempt to access the file and the tracking information, and storing the modified file on the hardware storage device.

A method for accessing an information resource includes obtaining a static storage medium encoded with a stand-alone server program. The server program is linkable to an information resource residing at least in part on the Internet. The server program is launched from the static storage medium. The web browser is launched. A request for data to be obtained from the information resource residing on the Internet is sent using the web browser. A response to the request is constructed using the server program.

Abstract: An information management, retrieval and display system searches through an informational resource, such as a document (e.g., a treaty), a number of individual documents (e.g., Web pages resident on the Internet), or a stream of information (e.g., DNA code, source code, satellite data transmissions, etc.) and displays the results of the search in an collapsible/expandable format based upon a user-selected display criteria or hierarchy. Such a display hierarchy will allow the end-user to effectively and quickly obtain items of interest from the search results.
