  • Patent number: 6536858
Abstract: A furniture system includes a low-height partition having a horizontal row of discrete attachment sites, such as slots on each side, and having a top surface. A binder bin has a continuous horizontal attachment feature, such as an “L” groove, along an upper portion of its rear side. A bracket system attaches the binder bin to the partition in a raised position, and includes a bent-rod top bracket and bottom brackets configured to engage the slots on opposite sides of the partition. The binder bin is initially attached at a desired location along the partition by selectively engaging the brackets with the slots and by engaging the bracket with the groove. The angle of the binder bin is adjustable with respect to the top surface of the partition by threadably finely adjusting a nut on the brackets.

  • Patent number: 6516571
Abstract: A screen apparatus includes a perimeter frame with a notch and arcuate foot in one of the bottom corners that are adapted to receive a raised floor device, such as a raised power outlet. A covering covers the frame but the notch is not covered. The covering is preferably a light-passing translucent sheet of performance fabric which is adapted to pass light sufficient for a viewer to see a person behind the screen, but which scatters and blocks sufficient light to provide privacy by hiding details of the person's work from the viewer. The screen apparatus also includes bowed frame members extending horizontally between some of the outer frame members.

  • Patent number: 6499801
Abstract: A chair includes a seat with male snap connectors thereon and a back. A cushion assembly has female snap connectors shaped to engage the male snap connectors for securement. The cushion assembly includes a dimensionally-stable fabric that holds the snap connectors in a stable pattern, and the male and female snap connectors engage in a manner that locates and secures the cushion assembly on the seat. The cushion assembly is easily and quickly removed from the seating unit, and can be quickly dry-cleaned, washed, or repaired, and reattached to the chair. A back cushion assembly is provided that can be pulled downwardly onto the back, and stretch-attached along its bottom edge. A removable seet through fabric vest can also be pulled downwardly over the back and releasably attach to a bottom edge of the back. A hanger is provided for supporting extra vests, back cushion assemblies and seat cushion assemblies.

  • Patent number: 6343839
Abstract: A component has a support with a stiff section and a flexible section. An incompressible resilient material, such as a gel, is supported on the flexible section. In one form, the component forms an armrest, with the support including upper and lower sections forming a loop. The upper section bridges between ends of the lower section and includes the flexible section, and a section of gel material is positioned on or molded onto the flexible section. In the armrest, the incompressible resilient material is sufficiently thick and resilient to comfortably support a person's forearm on the support yet further is sufficiently flowable and stretchable to at least partially move off a rib on the support and into the non-supporting areas when pressure is applied to the incompressible resilient material.

  • Patent number: 6279762
Abstract: The storage system includes a universal frame adapted to support different inserts, such as a hanging folder, a hanging sling, and a hanging box-shaped insert and is adapted to be supported by various supports, such as bent-wire snap-attach legs, a panel bracket, and rigid box support. The storage system is knockdown and reconfigurable by a user, and thus provides flexibility of use, while taking advantage of common parts. Further, the system can be flexibly used in existing offices having shelves.

  • Patent number: 6267064
Abstract: A furniture unit is provided specially adapted for use in laboratories. The furniture unit includes a pair of spaced-apart uprights and vibration-dampening legs extending from the uprights for stably supporting the furniture unit on a floor surface. A belt-high structural beam comprising two opposing C-shaped beams is fixedly attached to the uprights to rigidly interconnect the uprights in a spaced relationship. A plurality of worksurfaces is provided, each having a pair of cantilever brackets configured to rigidly connect to a side of the belt-high structural beam and to extend laterally therefrom. The plurality of worksurfaces is separately adjustably supported on the belt-high structural beam for vertical height adjustment, with at least one of the cantilever brackets engaging the belt-high structural beam at a location between the uprights. Shelves are attached between the uprights above the plurality of worksurfaces.

  • Patent number: 6250019
Abstract: A furniture arrangement includes an overhead support defining an elongated overhead utility channel, and one or more lamps attached to the overhead support in recesses formed by the utility channel. A dome-shaped reflector or gull-wing-shaped light-distributing member is attached to the overhead support for distributing light from the lamps downwardly into side areas around the overhead support. The light-distributing members are positioned to both distribute light from the lamp and to visually shield contents of the utility channel from people standing around (or above) the side areas. The utility channel forms light-source recesses for receiving the lamps and lamp ballasts, and wireway recesses for receiving lay-in wiring and utilities, which wiring and utilities are guided by the light-distributing members into the wireway recesses.
